Should we Stop Meth?

Methamphetemine needs one of two nearly identical chemicals to be made. Ephedrin and Pseudoephedrin. Both are found in numerous cold medicines. As far as meth labs are concerned either works fine. Here is the thing. Ephedrin and Pseudoephedrin are such complex molocules they require a whole chemical factory to make them. Its not something you can just whip together with a chemistry set. Even a trained chemist would need lots of specialized equiptment to make them.

So here is the puzzeler. All ephedrein and pseudo ephedrin comes from six factories around the world, the largest is in India. They try and make sure no country imports more then it can reasonably use in cold medicine, but mexico still imports ten times as much as it needs, the extra goes to make meth.

So should we accept that we need to suffer with our cold symptoms and ban these two chemicals world wide, or is the alliviation of runny noses justification to keep this drug around, despite its diversion to illicit and destructive drug use.

its a tuff question, we could be able to make other types of cold medicine, that do not use it, but not untill then, colds such, and I don't want to have to curse meth heads everytime i get one and don't have anything to keep it down.

Well, most people know about my medical opinions... All these drugs are harmful, even seemingly harmless cold medicines.

I know lots of people who take cold medicines because they are like "Legal Drugs". I'm horrified... Take it out of the hands of my countrymen...

i know what your trying to say, but nowadays its kinda hard to say i want to stop these cold medicines from being made in hope that meth will no longer b around. but honestly i like medicine to downsize my cold symptoms and make me feel better. crystal meth is a very harmful drug and i think research should be done to maybe find different chemicals that can be used to help colds that wouldnt have the properties needed to make meth, but until then im sticking with still having cold medicine

Serial, Meth can't be made without ephedrin or pseudo ephedrin. Meth cooks simply can't make epehdrin or pseodo ephedrin, it is too complex to make in any thing remotely resemebling stealth, and it is complex to make as well, involving multiple stages.
In the late 70's colubian drug lords beagan curring their cocain with a drug called rupinol. It was a specialized pain medication but its use was limited. The resulting mix was called ruppies. It was once used more then heroin or coacain or any other illicit drug, just like meth is today. But they convinced the manufacturers to stop making it. Today you will never have any one offer you rupies, know any one who OD's on it, and meet very few people that even remember it. It can't be made any more, because there is no rupinol on earth to make it out of.
So, Meth CAN be stopped. It can be gone from the world in six months. So how bad does Meth epedemic have to get before we should stop it? Or do we let it go because it impacts poor and minority people more and we don't care about them.

word. I'm from the lower middle class, I'm blessed enough to be able to have a computer, but I see meth almost every day. drugs, and violence have become part of my life. If half these kids I knew, got off meth, there lives would get so much better, they don't even want to do meth, but it controls them, seriously. I've seen too many friends parents go to state. I've been too many people scared by meth explosions. Is it time we did something? I think it is.

I know, I got you on so many levels lol. *sigh* and I don't think your anal, I just like bitching at people. well, there really was no need for you to correct his spelling, I only say this because I mispell like, every other word, and it pisses me off when people give a damn. lol. and yes, I slightly contridicted myself with the "i like my cold medicine; meth should be stopped" routine. but not really, if you look, you will discover that I wanted meth stoped, but I think we should find alternitives to cold medicinces before we ditch it. what about old people who, when they get a cold, could die.........think of the babies and old people dude lol. and then think off all the teenagers hooked on meth living in boxes on the side of the road never gonna amount to anything......which one is more important. lol..

im not for having everyones sink clogged and its kind of nice having a long lasting battery...i live in livingston parish, louisiana .. the meth capitol of the world. it has destroyed my family and caused a few divorces, and several lost child custody battles. sudafed and pseudophedrine are strictly controlled. if someone that looks like a drug addict buys it the cops are called. it really sucks overall. there is no cure for addiction, possible rehibilitation maybey. thanks web beard these are all really intersting topics
