In the dimly lit center
Of an old strip mall,
I look at my surroundings;
I'm bewildered by it all.
How could this,
This place I barely know,
But still have been
Around since I was young
Turn into the heart of
A town I barely know,
Despite being my home,
The place where I had grown...
In the dimly lit center
Of this old strip mall,
I look all around me
Wondering what has been done?
It's a transformation I decree
Should never have come to be,
I don't think it's destiny
That what was once a little thing
Should grow into a travesty.
Why do we desire
What could set the earth on fire,
Why do we get higher
When the dirt, it starts to seep!
In the dimly lit center
Of this old strip mall,
I look all around me
Wondering what has been done?
It's a transformation I decree
Should never have come to be,
I don't think it's destiny
That what was once a little thing
Should grow into a travesty.
It all, falls apart,
What I acknowledged
But had barely known,
Expands into a larger crowd,
Attracting those
Once not allowed.
Permission granted,
Access no longer denied,
This is the end
Of a simple life.
It's a transformation I decree
Should never have come to be,
I don't think it's destiny
That what was once a little thing
Should grow into a travesty...
