Hey. I am a touch over weight but not above the 25% BMI warning. Doctor doesn't seem to be too worried about me but has advised me on something to avoid and cut down on. But I do look at myself in the mirror and think, hm if my stomach stopped right here I'd look really good. I think some of my weight has to do with my muscle as well. I'm not a body builder, but I know that even though my calves look big, I can flex the muscle in them and you can see it.
I also do have bigger bones, my ribs are big and the bones in my arms are big too. I'll never be smaller than a size four (if I really lost weight, I've been a size six before). I really want to loose some weight for school next year though and get on track to a healthy way of living.

But I do not want to talk to my parents about loosing weight. My moms a bit big and so is my dad. My dad doesn't really care about his weight and I wouldn't label him anywhere near obese. My moms a bit over weight, but again I doubt she's over 210. But if I talk to them about it, my mom would take it to an extreme or take all the possible fun out of loosing weight. Plus my parents aren't always going to be there. I want to be independent. I can set the goals for myself and I really like running! I'm not good at it, but it attracts me for some reason and I would love to get good at it. Plus another goal is I have four pairs of size 6 pants in the closet that are missing me!

One of my main things that I could cut down on is breakfast. For most of this year I was on a fairly bad breakfast routine I think. I have tea every morning to wake up, the sugar I use though has no calories or anything really for that matter (how does it get sugary?) along with some cream. But then I also would have a whole bagel with cream cheese, or worse butter.

I don't want to be eating bagels anymore! They seem so bad for the health... I think I could replace the cream in my tea with skim milk and that would lower the fat and calories in that. But what else is there that's quick and tasty that I could have for breakfast? I don't put aside time in the morning to eat, instead I eat in the car. What do you guys who have a busy morning getting ready and getting to school eat?

Another problem I have is the lovely fact that often times, I just feel hungry! And I hate almonds so the 10 almonds will stop hunger thing sucks with me, since I had to eat lots of almonds a few years ago when I discovered that i was iron deficient. Are there any other tricks to feeling less hungry? I know exercise can sometimes curb hunger but I can't exercise while I'm sitting in class (except for art where I can be standing and moving and be much less focused on food).

All advice is welcome and appreciated!

No! Have breakfast. it the the most important meal if the day, it give you energy to start the day. Have some fruit with yogurt and some toast in the morning and not have a big lunch. Eat every 3 hours. and have you ever thought of joining a club to workout or swim? thats what I did and I ate healthier and I went from 160 to 135 in muscle. Eat less but eat more frequently.

And when you do eat bagels make sure they are wheat and if you work out eat noodles and potatoes because that turns into muscle. You need a little fat on your body or else you won't get any muscle. Eat protein like burgers and whatever you don't use it just come back out. Fat stays as fat but protein doesn't. One day work out lift weight exercise and the next day go for a run in the woods or ride your bike to a friends house. any more help just pm me or post in the thread :)

Hope I helped a bit.

I agree with Light here. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, b/c when you wake up, your energy store is depleted, and you need to refuel for the day.

Diet is really about lifestyle changes, that way, it becomes permanent, you're not on that dieting/lose weight/go back to old eating habits/dieting/ merry go round. So, you might want to look broadly at your eating habits (and exercise habits) and modify them slowly and over time.

So, for breakfast, how about a whole grain cereal and non fat/soy milk? Some OJ, maybe some fresh fruit, too. it might seem new and yucky for a little while, but that's more b/c you're not used to it. With time, it'll become habit and your tastes/preferences will change.

Snacks? Fresh fruits are good, they are tasty and juicy, yet have enought natural sugars to stop the hunger, but not enough to cause weight gain.

Hm, similar situation... 'sept due to my height , i'll be lucky if i ever fit into a 9 again.

Bagles are probably not the worlds best choice for breakfast foods. Just fyi, cream cheese is fattier and more calorie dence than the butter. Milk and fruit (with yougart? Just a thought?) sounds a bit healther (and tastier =D) I have a tendancy to get up late, so i'll often grab an orange and leave [School. Life. Saver.]

Avoiding munchies in class. Hm, how long do you have to go between breakfast and lunch where you are (most schools are different when they do lunch..) If it's just in the later school day that you're hungery then maybe eat more for lunch.

I know that breakfast is important.
Anyways this morning I had cream of wheat (with skim milk, and no salt) with cinnamon and apples. I also finished off the apple in some yogurt, measuring out the amount that was suggested on the side. I also had water and a piece of toast with just a touch of butter (this whole meal was kinda my lunch too cause I just woke up)
I don't think i exceeded 200 calories, and there was very little fat (probably some in the yogurt, milk and butter) and I tried to keep sodium to a minimum.
I disliked the cream of wheat but I do feel somewhat full from it.

I was curious, If I cook scrambled eggs (with yolk) using 2 eggs, milk instead of cream and no salt, in a pan without butter or oil and have the eggs with a piece of lightly buttered toast, how bad would that be? I don't see if being high in calories but is it higher in something else that should be avoided?

EDIT: I leave the house at 8, around that time eating breakfast, lunch is at 11-12, and then I eat supper at 7pm. My problem area isn't between 9-2, because I'm a school and I usually spread my lunch out throughout the rest of the school day (as part of my new year resolution I've decided I'm not gunna buy ANYTHING from the vending machines). But my problem area is from 2-7. I get home at 4 and I usually go ride my horse at 5 and get home by 7 to have dinner. But it's right between 4 and 5 that I get hungry and usually it results in a bad, high calorie, high fat snack, and I hate that I do that. And thats the time I think I need to really work on. Also having no time limit to eat during the summer is bad for me, But I think I did ok today.

You need to eat breakfast. Just eat smaller portions and less fatty foods at lunch and dinner. Keep lunch light and have a more healthy satisfying dinner.

This is what I would do. Wake up, have an apple and some yogurt with oats. I would just snack on grapes and celery, Maybe make sandwich on wheat bread. You would get protein and the healthy vegetables. ALSO, Watch what type of dressing you put on your salads. Lots of dressings have a lot of sugar and are fattening.

When you get hungry, eat.
Eating a small snack, instead of just ignoring your hunger isn't helping.
Your metabolism will slow in response to you not eating, so when you eat dinner, more calories will be stored as fat.

Instead of eating a high calorie, high fat snack, why not reach for a 100 calorie pack of oreos?
Or some fruit?
Doesn't have to be alot, just enough to satisfy your hunger, then you can procede with your day.
