As the guys have said, it was blue balls. It's also called vasocongestion. When you get an erection, the blood vessels in your penis become engorged. After prolonged arousal, blood can start to pool down there. As you now know, this can be very painful, but it is perfectly normal. The only real remedy is ejaculation, which releases the pressure that has built up over time.
