Okay, to all you gamers who have played this popular sandbox/crime series. Which is your favourite in the entire 3-D series?
Grand Theft Auto III - 2001 - PS2/PC/Xbox
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - 2002 - PS2/PC/Xbox
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - 2004 - PS2/PC/Xbox
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories - 2005 - PSP/PS2
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories - 2006 - PSP/PS2
Grand Theft Auto IV - 2008 - PS3/X360/PC
I actually dunno which one's the best. I played GTA III first, and really really enjoyed it when I was 10, and I loved the simplicity of the game, and how stupid the AI of the civilians were (it was fun to mess with them and start fights). But I loved the storyline/characters of GTA:VC, and I loved the 1980's Florida setting with the amazing soundtrack. But then again.. I loved GTA:SA because of all the new features and vehicles, and I also loved the big State to explore, but I really hated GTA:SA's story and characters. They sucked.
So I'm really unsure which to pick. I never played VCS or LCS, and I didn't enjoy GTA IV that much at all - it's gone far too "realistic", although I love the lively feel in it. But I hate the new controls.

Of the two I've played I choose IV because that's the only console one I've played, lol.

I like Vice City the best. San Andreas seemed to far fetched although it was still a good game I thought it took away the reality factor of the game, if you get what I mean. GTA IV was a good game but seemed less thrilling than the others to me.

Hate IV. I have III, VC and SA and love all of them, especially the latter.

I say SA, but IV is a very close second, and VC is a very close third, hell there all great

My personal favorite was Vice City, the setting was amazing, soundtrack, storyline, everything came together so solidly.
GTA3 is a true original; a classic, one of a kind. The game play and the 3D free will was the first of it's kind, a true marvel in gaming.

I agree it was a classic.
But I can't say it's the first of it's kind with free will. If you've ever played Driver 2 (http://uk.gamespot.com/ps/driving/driver2/index.html) back on PS1, that came out A year before GTA III (back in 2000) and you on Take A Drive mode you could drive around either Chicago, Havana or Las Vegas and explore, and you could get out of your car and steal others in 3-D. The fact it was a driving-based game means you couldn't kill anyone or have guns, but it was still fun. GTA III was much better, though.
It's a shame Driver 2 never got the credit it deserved. Sure it had flaws, but still, it had a great story (better than GTA III's IMO).

I do, I remember playing the original Driver on the computer at a friends house and remembering how awesome it was at that time! Driver 2, I never got into the story, but driving around the city free drive being the wheel man! Fun times! I miss that game
*Goes to find Driver 1 & 2 on ebay*

Yeah, I liked DRIV3R and Driver: Parallel Lines too, I don't care if bias reviewers thought they sucked.
I bought the Driver + Driver 2 Compilation Pack for my PS2 (via B/C) when I was 11. I loved them both, but Driver 2 was better because of the more freedom it had. I hated the cops in them games, though in retrospect I think they were quite advanced for their time. Like if you speeded or drove on the path, they were alerted. In many crime/sandbox/free roam games out now, they ignore that feature. (Probably because it's quite a frustrating one)

I like Chinatown Wars on DS the most (it IS 3D afterall, it has the best of the 2D versions, with the extra features 3D allows)...
and my second option would be Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360... extra content is a big plus

San Andreas hands down. IV was okay. But having to keep up your relationships was a big turn off. lol :P

IV was the best in my opinion gameplay and story wise, but it took away a lot of features added in SA.

1. San Andreas - Big map, great cars, K ROSE!, planes, cool scenery.. love it.
2. IV - Amazing graphics, huge map, a lot more realistic.
3. Vice City - Love the map, the cars.
4. GTA3 - Hardly ever played it to be fair, but not bad from what I can remember!

Even though I loved Vice City the best, GTA3 had the best music IMO

lol. That's a first. I've never seen anyone say they like III's soundtrack the most. GTA III had many fake songs (by fake I mean the bands and songs aren't real, and were just randomly employed by Rockstar for the purpose of the game), although it had a few real ones, like ones from Scarface ("Push it to the limit").

hmmm.. this is a hard one,
Im a big gta iv fan so big that I made my mum stay up till 12am so she could drive me to get my copy of gta iv at midnight release.. but the game was kinda a let down :(
how come you didnt put in gta1, gta london, gta 2?
I remember when I was little me and my friends would play them for hours on ps1,
loads of fun we couldn't get enough of that birds eye view lol,
then came ps2 and I got gta III and gta vc in a game pack at the same time for christmas and I never really got into gta III coz vice city was so fun I would play that all the time,
then when gta sa came out vice city just gained dust..
san andreas was so fun I played it non stop loads of hours wasted with that game lol then I got ps3 and rockstar slapped me in the face with gta IV :(
great graphics but B_O_R_I_N_G...
oh and I also had gta vice city stories and liberty city stories on psp but hardly played them..
so I would my favorite gta game is...
(drum role)..
ITS A TIE!! lol between GTA: vice city and GTA: san andreas,
also the only gta game I ever actually completed the story too and finished the game is gta IV I usually just have fun and cause chaos around the towns and citys lol many good times with this series and I hope the next one is a lot more fun than the last happy gaming every body :)

The first GTA, it's expansion pack (London) and GTA 2 aren't part of the 3-D series (I mentioned in my first post), they were 2-D.
The reason I didn't put them in, is because hardly anyone has played them, because the series didn't get popular until GTA III was released, and I really doubt many people would prefer an old 2D series to the 3D newer releases anyway, although that would be ignorance on my part. But oh well. lol.

If GTA 4 had the wilderness and massive amounts of land involved in San Andreas, GTA 4 would be the ultimate RPG game.
Of course, i think its a tie between GTA 4 and San Andreas, but GTA 4 wins by a small margin because SA had some miserable graphics for the time it was made.
Awesome

The best: GTA San Andreas had everything gta could imagine. Great storyline, trains, planes, fighter jets, tons of bikes, lots of places to see and do. Awesome missions like the Casino Heist, stealing a jet of a aircraft carrier, burning the pot field down, and the riots. It's my favorite game of all time.
Then GTA IV amazing graphics, beautiful details, good storyline, but the removal of planes hurt it.
GTA Vice City was the first video game i played and it was awesome, Vice City was such a cool place with the mall, golf course and the big beaches, also has a great story line with Scarface theme. Vice City stories is good too.
GTA III and Liberty City Stories are pretty much the same thing but also were tons of fun. The Army with the M16 in 3 was terrifying your dead in 2 seconds with the M16. Also the mob story lines were great.
GTA was the best video game seris ever. The main 4 GTA's are in my top 10 favorites. Also the soundtrack from everyone is great.
My favorite GTA's
1. Grand theft auto San Andreas
2. Grand theft auto IV
3. Grand theft auto Vice City
4. Grand theft auto III
5. Grand theft auto Liberty City Stories
6. Grand theft auto Vice City Stories

The Ballad of Gay Tony will probally be good, but you never know. But how could they screw up an expansion to GTA IV? TLATD wasn't bad, from what I heard so I expect amazingness from it.

I'm exited for BOGT, it bring some of the awesome fun of SA to GTAIV. Parachutes, and M249 SAW, P90, AA12, a new sniper, sticky bombs, and an APC. Looks 100x better then TLAD, not into the biker thing, but it did have some fun missions. Here's a pic of the APC if wondering.
