I was wondering if it is possible to have an STD by just masturbating or is the only possible way by having sex

If your mom had one at your birth, you may have gotten it

yes it is possible. (not from masturbating however)

you can get AIDS from a transfer of blood with someone who has it, like sharing a used needle

if you are able to perform auto-fellatio, then it is possible to give yourself genital herpes if you do it while having a cold sore.

If your mother had an STD while giving birth to you, you can too.

It is very unlikely, but remotely possible, that you can get certain STDS from public toilet seats. But the chances aren't high enough to stop using them

you dont necessarily have to have sex

if bodily fluids of an std (for lack of a better word) holder are are transfered into another body then you can catch an std that way

as said above transfer of blood ect. ect.

you can also be born with an std if your mother was an std carrier

If you are worried about having one despite being a virgin...I would not worry too much. You can technically get one from birth, even at that the passage rate to children is extremely low and I am sure your mom would have shared that information with you. I don't think you should worry about it...you are probably more likely to die from a lightening strike than an STD given to you from birth in a developed country.

Yes. There are actually several ways. The ones I am going to list may or may not be via masterbation:

1) When you are born and if your mother has HIV, you can get HIV via childbirth itself or breast feeding.
2) If you cum onto your face or have penis to face contact, you can transfer herpes to your face (vice versa with face to penis).
3) If you mutually masterbate (w/ a friend) and he cums on you or you cum on him, then you can transfer STDs to eachother.
4) If someone with herpes touches the infected area and then anywhere on you, you can contract herpes.
5) If you sit on a toilet with cum on it (some people j/o in bathrooms and cums on the toilet seat) and they have an STD, then you can get it.
6) If you become blood brothers/sisters with another person, you can get an STD/HIV/AIDS.
7) If you French Kiss with another person who has an STD (mainly HIV/AIDS) and you both have even a small cut in your mouth.
8) If your mother or father has an STD, you will most likely have one via childbirth/breast feeding.
9) If you sleep in the same bed with someone who has Crabs, then you can get them (I think those are an STD).

Some of those are more likely than others, BUT ARE ALL 100% WAYS YOU CAN GET AN STD!!! If you have ANY contact/exchange of body fluids between you and another person, you can contract an STD.

Hope this helps.

1) When you are born and if your mother has HIV, you can get HIV via childbirth itself or breast feeding. True.

2) If you cum onto your face or have penis to face contact, you can transfer herpes to your face (vice versa with face to penis). Only if you have herpes.

3) If you mutually masterbate (w/ a friend) and he cums on you or you cum on him, then you can transfer STDs to eachother. Only if he/she has a STD.

4) If someone with herpes touches the infected area and then anywhere on you, you can contract herpes. True.

5) If you sit on a toilet with cum on it (some people j/o in bathrooms and cums on the toilet seat) and they have an STD, then you can get it. True, but rare.

6) If you become blood brothers/sisters with another person, you can get an STD/HIV/AIDS. Huh? Having a brother or a sister doesn't give you that.

7) If you French Kiss with another person who has an STD (mainly HIV/AIDS) and you both have even a small cut in your mouth. True.

8) If your mother or father has an STD, you will most likely have one via childbirth/breast feeding. True.

9) If you sleep in the same bed with someone who has Crabs, then you can get them (I think those are an STD). Not sure about that.

There is my edited version of the above post.

Short answer, yes.

This is because all STDs have very different characteristics. Some are bacterial, parasitic, and viral. The viral ones can only be spread from blood to blood contact or fluid to fluid. Then the bacterial ones can be spread as long as the bacteria are alive. Bacteria usually thrives in warm dark places and if they somehow get onto you from those places, then you have the STD. Then the parasitic ones are usually like...alive. So as long as its alive, it can jump and spread.

Very disturbing but it is very very possible.

Marty's answer is best here, Rep+!

Your specific question is if you can get an STD from masturbation, and the answer to that is no, you cannot.

It's always a very good idea to wash your hands before mastrubation, however, to rid yourself of any bacteria/etc. that can be on your hands just from being out in the world, however.

Yea, I know. I used STIs for a while but no one else used it so I kinda went back to STDs :P

But it is STIs. Thats the "proper" term for it now.

But yea, youre right

Cold sores arent the same strain of the Herpes Virus as genetal herpes.

Psst STD has a better ring to it. it rhymes.

Yep, this is it :)

Any transfer of bodily fluids (semen, blood, etc) could get you an std/sti, or being born with one.

If they were white pimples/dots, and you tried squeezing them and white stuff came out, and they're on the bottom/middle of your shaft, those are probably Fordyce's spots. They are little patches of fat in the skin, and many guys have them on the shaft of their penis. Wikipedia says that "they are common in men and women of all ages." They are a type of sebaceous glands - which are "microscopic glands in the skin which secrete an oily matter (sebum) in the hair follicles to lubricate the skin and hair of animals." - Wikipedia

Here's an article that is in the announcement "Puberty FAQ and Information - THIS MIGHT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION!" at the top of this forum. I originally wrote this.

I have white spots on my scrotum/penis shaft. Do I have an STD?
Nope. The ones on your scrotum (ball sac) are probably hair follicles, and hair will probably grow out of them in a few months/years. The ones on your penis could also be hair follicles, but some could be Fordyce's spots. Fordyce's spots are basically little patches of fat in the skin. They're completely normal and almost every guy has them. Don't pop them - just let them be. If you really want to get rid of them, there's an expensive laser treatment you could do, but doctors advise against any treatment.

There's also a possibility you could have a pimple down there if it becomes inflamed. Just pop it, clean it off and go about your day.
If you have warts down there, you probably need to go see a doc as you could have an STI/STD.
