That is actually really funny!
Anyways, I would just say to carry on and make no notion toward it. If you don't make a big deal of it, then most likely, no one else will notice. Either way, just be proud of who you are! Love the body you are in, and everyone will see your confidence instead of you insecurities. Try not to long on the bad, but think of the good.
Hope this helps.

ya mate, rowing may help

@kyle95, rowing will not help.
this is a bone condition.
i kind of have the opposite (but not really) my sternum sticks OUT a bit./ people comment on it and they love to thump ma chest because it makes a very satisfying hollow noise.
aaaanyway. Don't worry about! It's just a concave chest, and its not hideous. I would just go swim w/o a shirt, and if anyone asks, explain it. it's by no means repulsive or disgusting.

according to the cleveland clinic:
"Physical therapy in young patients (under the age of 18, due to most pectus deformities remaining the same after this age) may play a role in slowing the development of the chest wall deformity and may possibly reverse some of the chest wall deformity."
This would include rowing exercises. The key here "therapy in young patients" and i'm assuming the post is by some1 under 18

Well try building you chest muscles it will help. You can do lots of things to build your chest. Pushups, weights and swimming.

Yup, if you're desperate, work out around your top half a bit and it won't be noticeable :D

Actually, a friend of mine does that, and he has big abs, but the hole is still there with very little change. The skin is very close to the bone, not much muscle to build up.

I really hate to sound rude here, but based upon my experience with your problem along with what I have read in medical journals the only real way to correct your problem fully is through surgery. Many folks like you around this age tend to get the problem fixed as it was my understanding that such an indentation in your chest might lead to large problems.
As for going shirtless with your issue the reality is that as long as you simply say that you have a slight birth defect when people ask you about your chest, then they will leave you alone. It is not like you have lepresy, and you body is just unique. If you think that you are just like the others and are not self conscious about your issue and just have fun in the pool, then no one is going to mess with you. Your issue is not uncommon, and I would not worry about it.

I know someone that has it, and hes actually a swimmer. He doesn't care. I think you should be confident about your body. Most people know that it is common and probably wont care if you look and feel confident and not carish while swimming.

I agree that the only way to resolve this is thru surgery, and depending on your age and the degree, might actually be indicated. At the very least, a doc should evaluate your situation.
If it bothers you a lot, you might want to look into that. Or plan on it for the future. Sometimes, just making that decision (even if it's for the future) puts it into a more tolerable perspective, making it a temporary condition, like the women who go places on Saturday afternoon with their hair in curlers.
Until then, getting some proper work out training (b/c there's an underlying medical/physical condition, maybe with a physical therapist), and wearing a shirt at the beach might be good ideas.
Most people are far more self conscious than they really need to be, which is probably a good thing, b/c everyone else is, too, which means many/most people probably won't even notice, or care if they do.

I honestly don't think that surgery is necessary unless it affects your body's ability to function.
Humans are born with flaws. It's a fact of life and fixing every single thing that's wrong with surgery with us isn't the way to go I don't think.
