Well, for one, everyone on swimming teams shave most of their hair. So, if people know you swim, they should understand that. And, there is no such thing as "looking gay".

uhh...no i dont think so, most of professional swimmers shave because the hair does something...or...well yeah something like that, i think it slows them down last time i checked, if you think back to the "tournaments" ( i forgot the other word...similar to olympic or something) Michael Phelps was all shaved up...i think

No it wont make you look gay, define the meaning of "looking gay"
But it is really your own choice, i suggest that if you really dont like it then shave it, or just keep it to make you look "manly" (maybe)

Don't swimmers shave most of the hair on their body? Either way, shaving your body does not "make you gay". Nothing can really "make you gay". I mean, what does a person who is "gay" look like...??? In our society we create a steryotypical "gay" person just because we are scared that if we do not that we are outside of the normal. As I have said in other posts, people "like to like what other people like", which basically means that we like to be like everyone else so that we can fit in. As in Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs, a sense of belonging is the third tier before we can gain a "high self esteme". This relates back to the whole "gay" thing because this is how our society decides to create a steryotypical "gay" person, and we need to break away from this. Nothing can "make you gay", but it can make you think that you fit into the steryotypical image of a "gay" person. The only person who knows what your true orrientation is (if you chose to pick one) is you.
I dont know if that made sense because I just wrote stuff in about 1 minute, but either way... hope this helps!
If this offends anyone, I AM REALLY SORRY!!!! I never meant to offend you if I did. SORRY!

Well like others have said professional swimmers shave almost all of their hair off because it slows them down and every little bit of speed counts. (Like michael Phelps winning only by 1/100 of a second). I say that you should try it at least once and after that then decide whether or not you waqnt to keep on shaving. It will help you for the swim team (not by alot though) but it's really your choice.

I am on a swim team, but I don't shave anything. A lot of the rest of the guys on the team shave everywhere for meets like state and AA's, etc.
And it won't make you look gay at all if you do.

I think everyone in this thread has answered you're question. No, you won't look gay. May I also add, from a girls point of view, I think boys with no hair are very hot! :P I prefere boys with no under-arm hair. :)
I know that isn't much to do with you're question, but it was generally a true comment that may help with you're confidence :)

WELL SAID! I could not have said it better myself. Nothing can 'make you gay.' Whether you are gay, straight, bi or otherwise, shaving body hair will not affect your sexual orientation.

Gay is a sexuality, not a style. Shave whatever the hell you like, most swimmers do.

some guys on the swim team shave their legs and arms to reduce drag on their bodies. I shave my pubic hair, because i don't like it.

I think that the other's opinion don't have to make you feel indecisive about this decision (actually, for all decision you will make). Just do what makes you feel more comfortable with yourself.

No, you wouldn't! Actually, it's a good thing you are on the swim team, because now you have an excuse. Any hair on your body not covered by something reduces air resistance, and thus makes you slower. So shaving off any hair would make you the slightest bit faster in the water. Just tell that to anyone who asks about it, and go ahead and shave it off!

Hair acts as a drag force. the less you have, the more streamlined your body is, and the most speed you can pick up.
and it wont look "gay". just explain your on the swim team and its required.

Well, this is an interesting question that is merely a matter of personal preferance. Now, you would not "look gay", and for the record, there is no shame in looking gay...anyways, i digress, seeing as you are on a swim team (me too), it may be a good idea if you're getting very competitive to increase your hydrodynamics and decrease your drag. But it's entirely up to you. If you're not totally sold on shaving your pits, perhaps buying a particularely nice suit to cover your armpits, thus reducing drag. Although i don't reccomend this, because the full body suit may cost anywhere in the 400-500$ mark for a nice quality and quite a waste of money. So, shave if you want, or if you don't, buy a nice suit, or just ignore the .025 seconds you add for that little bit of drag.
Hope this helps

P.S. as a swimmer, i do not shave my pits. Just a personal preferance :)
