Will the computer boot up? If so I have found that Avira and Avast are great. Both are available for download on download.com . Both also have free versions.

If you're unable to boot, you'll need the Ultimate Boot CD.
It will let you boot off the CD to a Windows environment, where you can run one of the virus removing tools on there.
If you are able to boot, download and install AVG Free.
If you are able to boot, but the virus has blocked all anti-virus software from running, then run the Windows Live OneCare Saftey Scanner (http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm).
It's an online scanner, with nothing but an ActiveX control to install.

Well, the internet doesn't work now. But it does boot.

If possible you might be able to download a free AV to a CD or memory stick and install it from though
