people cannot close their own threads
it may stop old ones being bumped

because that would require everyone to have global mod privileges, defeating the point of having moderators
that, and not all bumps are nessarly bad.
If you want it to be locked, report a post and request a lock..

People can not close their own threads because we do not necessarily want all threads made to be locked. That might restrict people from giving really good info and stuff. The system we have now is good because bumped threads don't occur too much, definately not as much as it used to, and also moderators are on so often, that they are taken care of pretty often.

Because we'd rather keep the moderating up to the moderators.

Because as a new member you don't have the experience to make decisions like that. Also, regular members can abuse their privileges too. That's why the moderators are there! They are trusted by the people who run the site. They fight spam, in the pursuit of justice and real meat!
