Historically American writers are 'rule' breakers.

Frost broke the strict and tight form of poetry with more free verse.

ee Cummings made pictures out of his words in his poems.

Cather and Chopin wrote about women being actual thinking individuals.

Kerouac wrote experimental works, pioneering the Beat Generation.

A more relevant example that comes to mind is Stephenie Meyer making her own non-traditional version of vampires.

Don'tcha just love American writers? :D

Literary pioneers exist within every culture. Not just America.

I'm not saying that they exist in just America.

I'm saying that there is a trend in that they 'break the rules' or 'the mold' if you will.

Example being that William Shakespeare set the standard of a strict form in his poetry,
Being a pioneer of sorts in his day.
And writers like Robert Frost break away from that strict mold.

Hence forth why I said 'breaking the rules', not saying that they are only literary pioneers.
There's a difference in making the mold and breaking the mold.

I'm just pointing out that those rules are not universal. If the rules by which literature are governed differ from culture to culture then the authors who break the rules are going to come from different countries too.
