The last vestiges of early morning mist swirl their way into oblivion,
dawn sunlight bathes the lonely field with gold.
Two carriages roll in from opposite directions,
for one the journey has been short, for the other very long.
The combatants remain seated while their seconds choose weapons.
Which will it be, the hockey sticks or the digital SLR's?
Its decided, cameras at 30 paces.
Pale faced, the two rivals take to the field.
The young canadian hides his fear,
the taller englishman quietly confident,
the choice of weapons has gone his way.
They walk to the centre of the field
and take up position, back to back.
Whats this? A third carriage thunders in,
a third young man hurries forward.
"Stop, stop, for God's sake stop" he cries,
"Not over me, there must be some mistake,",
"You must have confused me with that awesome new guy."
"You know I want to see you shoot, but not like this!"
"Nick you silly bastard" they respond with single voice,
"Must you talk in p101?".
"I can not help it" Nick explains,
"I have 7 former lovers killed in duels,"
"is this normal for a 15yr old boy?"
"Its just hormones, normal" they reply,
"but we have to make it 8 today".
With that they begin to pace,
...13, 14, 15, they turn and shoot.
The young canadian falls,
"No, please no" Nick sobs,
"Its all my fault, I should never have allowed the cameras"
"What hope did he have against a hotshot like D.?"
Then as he watches in horror
D. staggers, his legs buckle
and he falls to the ground.
"No, no, not both" Nick cries
unconsolable now in utter desolation.
"What have I done, what have I done?".
Then before his disbelieving eyes
the two corpses come back to life
and walk towards him, laughing.
D's hand goes to his pocket,
there in his palm he now shows Nick
two unused SD cards.
"Haha, they were not loaded" D. explains.
And with that the two contestants put down their coats
to make a goal and start a game of hockey.
Nick, gibbering now, is led away,
"Cant we all be friends" he mutters as the madness closes in.
