To speak without words,
But to mean everything;
It is unjust like snow in July,
When you are overwhelmed by cold,
Despite anticipating and desiring warmth.
It is forever and yet it is never,
For if the utterance goes unheard,
Or better yet, is never uttered,
Then the meteor hits the earth
And, in a ball of flames, our lives melt away.
But if the anecdotal phrase slips out,
And, despite being wordless, is heard
By the deaf boy with the horn-rimmed glasses
Sitting patiently with his hands interlocked
In the back of an empty classroom...
Well, then the utterance will have meaning,
And never will be forever,
And the direction that the shuttle was headed
Will be altered to the extent that the shuttle
Will not traverse the universe, but descend
Back toward the earth and bring with it
The ultimate form of divine intervention.
