So apparently you HAVE TO HAVE a prescription to buy colored contacts online, even if they are non-corrective. I have 20/20 vision, so of course I would want the non-corrective contacts. However, since I have to have a prescription, I would have to go to my doctor.

My question is, can I go to the doctor by myself and get a prescription for this, or do my parents have to be with me? (I'm 17)

I hope someone knows...

Thanks.

You still need your parents to go with you because you are still a minor. Oh and I suggest you get silver or grey, it looks soo cool...

Hmm... I don't know what my parents are going to think of me wanting colored contacts though. Lol

What do you think they're going to say? and its actually pretty cool, just dont get the ones that are too girly, just get the ones that are dark or close to your eye color

Logic would say to me that the reason you need a prescription to buy them from the internet is because you would only be given a prescription for contact lenses if your eyes could take them.

It's not quite as simple as just putting something straight onto your eye, you need to make sure that your eyes can take contact lenses, that the front of your eyes are in good condition and that the underside of your eyelids are ok.

Also, if you are going to wear coloured lenses, you will need to learn how to clean them properly, how to take care of them and how to take care of your eyes. Just a few basic things you need to remember like not sleeping with them in, only wearing them for short periods of time to being with. You also need to keep checking your eyes after you've been wearing the contact lenses for a while; the eyes can easily become irritated by contact lenses and pick up infections easier than eyes without contact lenses would.

It's better to know how to wear them than go and bugger up your eyes; they're not an organ which can be replaced.

They would probably say it's just a waste of time and money and I don't really need them.

And Chequ3r, thanks for all that information, but I have several friends who wear contacts as well as my father, so I already know about that. None of that really answered the question though...

well if you really want it, you could make a deal with your parents like you pay half and they pay half... or something like that

You're going to need a parent there with you. Or at least to call and make the appointment, and you are going to need to have your insurance card there I believe. If you go there by yourself you're probably going to have to let the office know ahead of time, so paperwork doesn't become a problem.

And if you keep searching, I know that prescription free lenses CAN be found online somewhere. Where that somewhere is, I don't know. I know someone who bought some online without a prescription.

Why do you want colored contacts though? I mean, to be honest, if you don't need corrective lenses, it really isn't worth the hassle. I wear contacts, and trust me, if I didn't have to, I wouldn't. I wouldn't even wear them if I could get by without them. However, without corrective lenses I can barely see 2 feet in front of me. So, if you are looking for the ones to make your eyes just a different color, I wouldn't suggest getting them. They really aren't that great. And to be honest, I think that it looks weird when people have colored contacts in.
