Fell in the parking lot

Hello everyone

well, I was chasing one of my friends across our church parking lot one night after a program (Thrusday night to be exact) and i lost my balance and fell. My hand hit first and then the side of my face and i slid maybe 5 or 6 feet on the side of my face. Now my hand feels like i majorly busted it up some how, possibly broke it. My face is fine, just a big gash (now a scab) My hand is brused, badly swollen, and i cant do anything with it besides move it.


So, what should i do about my hand? should i go see a doctor and get it x-rayed? or just let it go?

Get in to see your general physician within the next few days, or head down to the clinic at your local hospital. They'll take a look and decide if they want to take x-rays or not.

If it's broken it needs to be treated or you'll potentially have big problems with your arm later. In the worst case scenario they would have to do surgery to break the bone again and then re-set it, which may still result in a less-than-full recovery. It's possible that it's just a strain, but landing on an outstretched hand like that is a very common way to break your arm or wrist. I'd keep ice on it for the pain and swelling, and take some ibuprofen if you need to. Keep the ice on for 15 minutes, and then off for 45. Repeat. This helps keep the swelling under control while still allowing plenty of blood flow to let things heal. Take it easy, and see the doctor soon. It's not an emergency, but it IS important enough that you shouldn't wait to make the appointment.

ok, thanks for the advice. We just got back from the doc (my mom forced me to go) and my hand IS broken. around the base of my pinkie its broken (got to keep the x-rays) so its in a splint now, and sometime this week we are going to my normal doc to see what to do about maybe a cast, possibly a wire or a screw, or something else

You seriously have to go to the doctor! Not to scare you but you might not even know it but your head might be bleeding inside, some people dont even know about it until they bleed internally and die. Anyways about your hand you also need to go to the doctor and get it x-rayed for reasons like permanent damage or what-not

My head is fine, it wasnt slammed on the ground i just hit it on the ground and slid, cutting the side of my face. The doc took a look at it and said its fine.


I have another appointment tomarrow to see about a cast, or, god forbid, a screw or wire

you should really go see a doctor because it could be severely sprained or broken and if it is broken you don't want it to heal improperly

also ask your parents

Alright, just got back from the second doctor, I didnt need any pins or screws, just a cast (its blue yay!)
