I've noticed that in chat we have two areas. The Lounge and Tech Talk. everyone uses the lounge and no one uses tech talk. So maybe a new room called The Help Area? Cause sometimes people come into chat for advice and we have them asking in the lounge. And I think some people get a little weirded out by some of the question. This way, the lounge is the lounge and the help room helps people. Thoughts?

I think that maybe a good idea. But there isn't a lot of people ever in the chat, may get more in. :)

edit: altho as i type i see ppl in there, XD

I really like this idea. Although the chat is rarely ever used for like...serious discussion I think this would be a good way to separate the people who are here for fun and who are here for actual help.

In fact I think we should change the Tech Room into Help Center

I'm posting that I don't care to indicate there are a lot of people who don't use the chat, and maybe we don't need to make any changes to the chat.

then say something like, "i don't really think there is a need for this kinda change"

not "i dont care" some people do use it.

I support, but that raises the question who will be in that area a lot? I'd do it, but I think there should be more people than Caleb in I in there because we don't know everything! Just... a lot.

Well if that is the case please specify it instead of making a post that can be viewed as spammy.


I think that the change will only effect people that use the chat so if you don't use it, it doesn't matter.

yay! i may not know lots but i still like to help, and be someone people can talk to. Id go in there more then i do now. :)

Its so easy to set up so I don't see why not. I can't do this right now but make sure I don't forget to do this later.

Depends what you call a lot, its not unusual for there to be 8-10 people in together at around 11pm - midnight uk time and its very common for there to be 5 or 6 people in there in the late evening.

My gut feeling is that if you add another room or rename the tech room people will still end up in all in the lounge.

I someone asks a question that makes me think the lounge is not the best place to answer I generally open a private chat window with them and try to help them that way. I'm sure other people do that too.

It is a bit cliquey in the chat room sometimes, and the conversation can be a bit wacky and a bit racy. I'm sure that we sometimes unintentionally frighten newbies away. I always try to say hello & welcome to the chatroom if someone new comes in.

I'll lend my support here, eventhough that's pretty much a guarantee *it* won't happen.

I think this is a fantastic idea, Caleb! If there's a specific place for live counselling chat, I think it would be utilized. It would be true to the ideals of the site, I think it would be used by those with something to offer as well as those in need.

As long as the "Help Center" doesn't become "P101 Threads in chat" I support it. I'd make it clear that the help center is not for p101.

I think p101 discussion is just asking for trouble..

The room has been created.

This goes to show that good ideas will be implemented regardless of who are the ones supporting it. :)

Yes, but this isn't relevant to you at all. It should be only to people who use the chat. If you don't use the chat you wouldn't care if it was tech time, Tool Time with Tim the Tool Man Taylor, help center, Bobby Joe's fried wings center, etc.

Anyways, I like the idea.
