I just want to know. I have NOTHING against anyone with bulimia. I just have a friend and she talks about it being hard to stop being bulimic.

the thing is, with things like bulimia, after a while, it stops becoming a physical thing, and the brain starts to get used to the idea, and liking it. It is mainly the psychological aspect that makes it hard to stop.
(please correct me if i am wrong)

ok, so it's basically you are still under control [your body doesn't force you to throw up] it's just what you're thinking that controls it?

Like Declan said, after a while it becomes a mental illness. Even if you know it's wrong, it's still hard to get over the mental barrier that makes it so you feel the absolute need to throw up after eating.

i see.
but it's not like when you're sick and you have to throw up, right?
like if you eat your body can't take it and you throw up?

I don't believe so.
It's more like a very strong urge to make yourself throw up, because your body feels it's right.
You're still in control, but it's very hard to stop yourself from doing it. It's kind of like *really* wanting that cookie mom said you couldn't have. Except times a million.

Take it from someone is currently having a rough experience from it;
Not only does it fuck up your body, it fucks with your head. I have been struggling with it for 4 and a half years - up and down. I often question whether I'll ever get better.

Bulimia and anorexia are mental disorders; some people don't realize that. Asking what makes it hard to stop being bulimic is like asking why it's hard to stop being schizophrenic.

Its an addiction. Its like trying to stop eating chocolate all the time - if you'v had it so many times you just cant give it up - like you eat, purge, you can't stop after you'v done it, it becomes a part of your life and you feel the need to be sick when you'v eaten ..
Hope i helped:P x
