A 12-year-old known to the Department of Community Services is about to become one of NSW's youngest mothers.

The girl's older boyfriend had been allowed by her mother to move into their home and the pair slept in the same bed before her father took custody of her in March, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Her father, who is separated from her mother, had pleaded with the department but they did not respond to the situation, the report said.

The girl is reportedly about halfway through her pregnancy and will become one of the state's youngest mothers.

A department spokeswoman told the paper the department was working with the girl and her family.

"DoCS had received reports about this girl previously," the spokeswoman said.

"Because of more urgent cases, the department took some action to investigate this case, but acknowledges more intensive casework could have been done."

This is disgusting. How did this case not receive more investigative work?

if my dad was typing this he would give a very political answer. but from what i understand, the department of community services, which is a state run organisation, is not funded enough by our state government and is poorly managed by the government which is why a lot of cases like this happen.

I'm totally confused here. So the boyfriend impregnated the girl, and the father is upset that the mother let the boyfriend and the girl sleep in the same bed because she got pregnant and she's underage. Right?

Right. But the government is involved because the father had been trying to get custody of the daughter for a while, and they didn't get it done. From what I gather, he thinks that if he were in charge, the pregnancy wouldn't have happened.

ok that makes more sense. I thought that the father raped the daughter but then I was like...no...that's not what it says...
