This May Sound Quite Funny But Its Really Painful.

Okay So. I Slept Over at my friends yesterday, we had a little party there was five of us and we desided to camp out in the garden. i came home and at about 4 and wanted to change my bra and when i did i noticed there was something brown stuck to my left boob, i thought maybe it was chocolate so i flicked it of and noticed it moved, it was an insect, i killed it then look in my mirror to see what it had done if anything. its bit me right on the edge of my nipple and i have a massive purple vain sticking out and its swollen, and very itchy but most of all extremly painfull. atm its really hurting its kinda pulsing and the whole of my nipple (not the little bit, all off it) is swollen and extremly tender. iv shown my mum (odd yes i know but i thought it was necessary) and she said to keep an eye on it but its extremly painful, and im worried as its near my heart if anything poisonous was put into my body from this insect whether its dangerous or not. im really not sure what to do. can anyone help please?

As I see your from Nottingham, and in the UK there is very little if any dangerous insects in our land. However, as it did bite you then it may be best to go to the doctor, even if its nothing its best to get them to do a check up.

That would be best really, and much safer. If you can show your mum your nipple then you can show a doctor. :)
It may be nothing remember, I hardly doubt it could effect your heart. Any access to your heart is through the bloodstream remember.

I'll trust Joe's opinion that it's not likely to be poisonous, since I don't know much about bugs in England, much less ones in any specific region. I'd say the biggest worry, then, is infection. Watch the bite, if it starts to get a red border, especially if there are any red lines extending from it or the border grows, get in to see your doctor either that day or the next day, for antibiotics. The lines indicate a path where the bacteria/infection may be spreading, and any infected wound/bite is worth checking out. For now, seeing your doctor may sitll be a good bet, especially if it's not improving.l Just make sure that, the day you go in, you don't rub any creams on it. You may be tempted to use some cortizone cream, or something else to help with the pain or if it starts to itch. Don't do that before seeing the doctor though, because it will affect the way the bite looks. If necessary, you can take an oral anti-histamine, but it's best to go in with nothing in your system if you can.

If you're not sure about if the rash/irritation is spreading, you can take a pen and draw a line around the edge of it. It'll last for a few days, so if it extends past the line, you know it's progressing. That's what the doctor did with my hand once, when I got a bee sting that got angry with me and my entire hand was red and swollen. I hope things clear up, this doesn't sound like fun at all. :(

The deadliest thing we have is an....adder. And there quite rare.

That's a snake anyway.

I don't know what the deadliest we have around here is. Mostly the things to watch for are ticks when you get into the hiking trails and areas that are left mostly alone, and lots of poison oak. Poison oak isn't a bug, but it's something that can be evil nonetheless. The natives are actually immune to it, because there's a lot and they had to live with it for so many centuries. A Chumash person could make tea out of it and be fine. xP

Poisonious is a relative term. B/C something doesn't kill you doesn't mean you cannot have a reaction to it (or something it might have injected into you). Insects bite typically to kill their prey or as self defense, and since we're not their typical prey, the toxin they inject is more irritating than fatal (unless you have a specific allergy to it). So, it's doubtful that you'll die here, even if it's close to a major organ.

As long as you can continue to breathe normally and the discomfort is local to the bite site, then ASK your mum if you can take an antihistimane like Benadryl. That will reverse the histamine response that's causing the symptoms.

Are you sure it wasn't a tick bite?

Are you sure it wasn't a tick bite?

That's what I thought at first.
Ticks are pretty dangerous if they aren't removed properly; part of their body is shaped like a corkscrew, and doesn't just pop out when you pull on it, so it breaks off instead, leaving the corkscrew thingy inside the bite. It easily gets infected because of that.

Other than that, I'd ask your mom about it, and if it itches/hurts, put a cold cloth over it. That helps reduce itching a lot for me.

Ticks are hard to just flick off, though. You're right that the head burrows into the skin, though. Some have to be removed with a circular rubbing motion, due to the corkscrew shape that you mentioned. Others don't have that shape, but can be removed just as easily with some tweezers and a lighter. Grab em so they don't disappear once they pop out, and hold the flame near enough to their back end that self-preservation kicks in and they come out.

I don't think this was a tick though, based on the fact that she said she squished it. Sounds like it was still alive and moving when it was flicked off, which is a good sign. I guess the doctor will figure it out if/when she goes in.

It Deffinatly wasnt a tick, we dont have many in england, and it wasnt shaped like that, it was slightly curled up. but its left an indentation in my skin where it was... its kinda purple-y.
and its starting to become uncomfortable to breath. the pain has spread right down my left arm into my finger tips and up the side of my neck and its given me a really bad neck ache. it also hurts if bend my arm so the biceps are being used in my arm, as if i were trying to touch my sholder.

Make a doctors appointment. As soon as possible. I think you really need to see one, just in case. They might give you some antiseptic cream or something to get rid of the pain....Just make one.

You should have gone to the hospital immediately if you were having trouble breathing. A simple little big bite doesn't cause symptoms like that. Whatever it was must have been pretty poisonous if it did all that. But since the last post is old I'm assuming your problem was either resolved or you died? Lol, okay not funny but seriously, you should be more careful next time and go to the doctor or hospital for something like that. Always put antibacterial cream like Neosporin on bug bites and injuries to make sure they don't get infected.

Good to hear things worked out. I actually thought about you and your bug trauma the other day when I got a particularly irritating bug bite, wondered how things ended up going. xP

what would be helpful is atleast describe what the insect looked like so we'll know what actually bit you..and i advice you go to the doctor, because some insects can actually cause high fevers etc..im not so sure about death, but yea
