I have a seven year old cousin and my aunt is trying to set up parental controls on her account so tha my cousin isnt exposed to any "objectional material" on the internet. Does anyone know of blocking software for Mac OS X Panther?

P.S. I'm only doing this as a favour to my aunt, I dont believe in parental controls.

i dont know much about macs or its software, but im guessing go to apple.com? maybe you have but search around there and maybe you'll find a place where to ask questions. and same, i dont think parental controls are right. i cant find the right words to express why i dont think they're right, but i just dont like them

hmmm...well then, is panther like the internet thing or the whole os name? if its the whole os name, then im not sure u can just put perental controls on the WHOLE computer, but for the internet, ask her(or if you're close do it yourself)to look in the box and im sure it will say something about perental controls. i dont see why it wouldnt

Sorry, I don't have any knowledge of applications for Macs. Though remember, Google is your friend ;)

i cant stand how schools where i am are always trying to get students to use other ways of searching for material instead of google. its like i spent 4 classes using ebscohost because thats what we were supposed to use, and i didnt find anything, and then next class i went to google and in 5 minutes found pages and pages of info that in the end met all the catagories and criteria that i needed to get an A on. google IS your friend

search http://www.mininova.org/ but be careful, you will have to download utorrent and torrents are messy (spywear adwear) just type in parental controls, and see if any softwear appears, you can directly download it from there for free, or you can just see what there is and buy it. good luck

There's a Web browser that has parental controls and stuff, called BumperCar-http://guide.apple.com/action.lasso?-database=macosguide&-layout=cgi_detail&-response=/ussearch/detail.html&prodkey=66096&-search . dont ask me how I know that, and if that link doesnt work get her to search that made4mac section for Bumper Car. Otherwise, there's built in parental controls in OS X 10.4

If you want parental controls built in, you'll have to upgrade to OS 10.4 (Tiger)
If your willing to pay for software, Intego has Content Barrier X. My parents have it on my computer and it bugs the hell of me.

MAC!!! oh the beauty!! oh the price... If I had a mac, and I want one, I would soooo not use parental controls. Just tell your aunt you have no clue. Oh and DON"T buy os 10.4 tiger, os 10.5 is coming out soon (couple of months). Think it's called leopard. Wait, can't you upgrade from panther to tiger for free?

Yes, if you get a pirated copy I suppose...
