yea, ive wanted to speed up my system to see if id get any other results, and i've heard of overclocking. Does anybody know how to do it for a Dell Dimension desktop? and if i were to overclock my graphics card, would i be able to run more things for ex. play more high-end games?

Anything Else you need just ask... thanks

Well, to be honest, I'd need more information: what processor do you have, what speed is it, what speed is your front-side bus, and how fast is your RAM. Also, if you decide to overclock, then you'll need better than normal cooling - especially for the video card.

Do you know how i can find this info out.. its a custom built pc so i dont have any documentation or anything..

Try to ask whoever built it. Hmmm... There should be some software that can give your some detailed information about your computer. Try Googling some keywords and see what comes up, or go to Snap Files (clicky) (http://www.snapfiles.com) and see if you can find some tools in the freeware section :)

Getting back to the topic, yes, you can overclock to get better performance. All you need to do is find an application you trust to do it. Once you find one, put up a link so I can tell you what to do with it.

By the way, you can also overclock in the CMOS setup, but I'd need to know who made your BIOS to direct you where to go.

Phoenix Bios
D888 BIOS
Poenix 1998
180530539

The above is exactly what the sticker on the bios chip says. im currently looking aroung google for overclocking stuff.

K here are the specs i dug up.

The Basics

Hard Drive: The extra-large 200 GB Ultra DMA hard drive (7200 RPM)
Processor: The Intel Pentium 4 519 processor (3.06 GHz) . Its hyper-threading feature allows this single CPU system to behave in some aspects like a dual-CPU system,. It also features a decently fast 533 MHz front-side bus speed, which measures how fast a processor and the main memory communicate, and a 1 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)
Memory: The 512 MB of installed RAM (PC2700, 333 MHz)

And for graphics card beside the onboard card. I have a nividia Geforce 5500, 256 mb graphics card. If that is not enough i will put more up later

look dude, if you dont understand hardly any of what we are tellign you, dont even try to OC until you learn more

if you try to use something like ClockGen then i guarantee you will screw up your bios more than once and might even screw it up permanently

if you dont have above average cooling you will end up popping your processor and/or video card

if you dont have or know how enable PCI/AGP lock then you will end up screwing up your soundcard, etc

if your running a SATA hdd i guarantee you data loss with any kind of OC

learn more and get your system up to it before you OC man or you will highly regret it

Quit scaring them. I overclock just fine without data loss on my SATA drive :?

Anyone that seriously wants to overclock their computer and is aware that it can be risky, then PM me and I'll look more into your personal overclocking capabilities (please wait a couple days for any response, as I may be busy for the next week :P)

kiros when you help some noob screw up their stuff, its on you

when i say data loss on sata i mean with medium/high overclocks depending on what board you have, i got the HTT up to around 275 and i started windows and it wouldnt even recognize my sata drive properly

im just trying to tell noobs that want to "mke my sistem go uber max!!!" what all can happen if they forget something or neglect to do something

i would bet that anyone here doesnt even know how to properly monitor temperatures and many video cards dont allow you to monitor anyway

I will help people's computers run faster. If you normally screw up people's computers, then that's your problem - I however don't have this problem.

And...
"mke my sistem go uber max!!!"

Who ever said that?

ive actualy had people say that to me

"I will help people's computers run faster"

under some circumstances yes, other times, while they cant monitor their temps, it will slow down considerably and make nice white smoke emit from processor

im not bothered bout it now.. too much risk and i only use this computer for internet and the occasional game of cards :P
