Hmm, well Ant keeps his job application methods (I mean how he chooses people) secret from the likes of us. Steph and Val might know....but they won't tell you.

And with the jobs question...they've always said that if you want to be a staff member, never ask. :P
Nuf' said really.

Generally staff are picked based on their record. When I picked staff I'd look at their past posts and see if they were a) a good poster b) obeyed the rules c) actually actively helped out on a regular basis providing good advice in the relevant section.

I always think if you are doing a good job you will get noticed by the powers that be.

1. you will be picked especially if you're well liked (Cody, Valerie, Ant, and Alex have all had this quality).
2. don't bitch like I did or you'll never get anything
3. all of Alex's reasons in above post
4. Contribute to the forums (if you never post in puberty, you probably won't get a puberty mod job)
5. You gotta be active on the forums. Of course, once you become a staff member, then you can become unactive to a certain extent. See: Molly, Doug, Andy (the one without the VT addiction) and that one guy "aC.WaKebordin"? Hard name to type. They were mods for a long time until they finally took their job away due to activity.

It really depends for the area.

For instance, as I looked back on the GD mod searches,

Be able to recognise and deal with spam
Control arguements
Active

those were needed.

For p101

A good knowledge of Puberty
Willing to offer good advice
Active in the section

that was wanted.

For psych=

A lot of knowledge in the areas covered
Sensitivity in the topics brought up
Active

but basically it is maturity, knowledge, and skill/potential.

If you click on that red link in my sig, it will have more info for you.

Well being able to write well and being active is a requirement.

No one here knows you well enough, and asking for a job when there aren't any openings usually doesn't sit well.

Listen optimas.

Almost everyone wants to be a mod, they want to be at that social level in this already hierarchy social system, but you have to earn it. All the mods on VT have earned Moderatorship, whether through the public applications or personal invitations. Youve only been here under 4 months, and I bet there's many other people out there that think that if they contribute to the forums positively, give advice, and make friends, they should become a mod, but if you want to become a mod, you need to do all that better than the rest of people desiring to become a mod. Strive to be better, strive to be different. Being a moderator isn't a walk in the park either, it's harder than being a normal member, because you have many more responsibilities. It doesn't happen overnight either. Most mods have been here for over 2 years, but only got promoted a couple of months ago.

That was in no way an attempt at insulting you, just setting some things straight.

I've personally never trusted the power hungry members that start pressuring for it shortly after arrival

QFT.

Anyone that joins a forum to become a staff member deserves eternity of limitations.

Not saying that's you.

Oops... Misread the join date. But still, 519 posts in a year and a third isn't all to active. (still not trying to be mean). Whatever, it's not like the Admins don't know what they're doing.

I think Autumn... Declan... Dan... Steph were all modded around 500 or under
And I was modded at over 2500 posts. :P
So don't be discouraged by post count. Just make every post count for something, and make sure every post is helpful.
Other than that, it's up to the seniors to decide whats best for VT's moderating team.

When choosing a moderator it's not something taken lightly because they are pretty much leaders in their forums. So leadership skills is a must. They are also someone that would be good to go to for advice. So considerate, kind, trustworthy, and knowledgeable is in there. They would also have to be a person that is kinda active. So a good activity rate is added to the list. The last thing a moderator must have is patience because lord knows how much we need for this job. So finally being patient is added to the list. But that's just my opinion.

1) Activity (minimum of 3 post per week I believe the standard is)
2) Able to be a team player
3) Knowledge of the forum you apply to mod for
4) Quality of posts made
5) Maturity
6) Leadership skills

All of these things tend to be taken into account
