Earlier today, I saw an advertisement thread for cheap meds on here and reported it. I see that it was removed, but I can't stop asking myself the question as to why the spam blocker message didn't pop up in the post. There were multiple links (at least 10, 11 at most) in that thread, and I just wanted to know why the spam filter didn't come through. Is it possible that it was removed during a vB upgrade?

Yea, before the last major upgrade, they used to have an option that disallowed links and pictures to be posted if people had less that 10 posts. For some reason we dont have that anymore

Why not?
I mean, it's annoying to new memebers who, um, aren't spambots, but it's not too hard to get up to 10 posts

But what if a legitimate new member posts a link? Then their whole post is erased. That's irritating and unwelcoming.

yep, that is true and besides, if such items are reported the thread/post and the person who posted the advertisement get dealt with quickly anyways.

Finally, I'm not positive, but I would guess it's a mod or add on, and would need to be frequently updated, may not be updated if the creator stops updating it, and would be rendered useless when the new vB comes (pretty soon I think)

Maybe you could do that thing where you have to put in the numbers to make your account, where it's a distorted picture you know?
Or even do that just to post a link or pic. Good idea I think.

Hes saying if they can't then all they have to do after their post is denied is just make 10 posts and post the link after they get the 10 posts

While that's true, someone might put a lot of heart or thought into their first post for advice, then put ONE link in it, and it's erased because the entire post is replaced with "THIS MEMBER HAS LESS THAN 10 POSTS AND POSTED A LINK OMG". There's no way to get that post back. So their post about something...health problem...suicide...abuse...is lost.
It IS unwelcoming...

And then seriously...how often do people put links in their posts...hardly ever.
And if they did, what would you link to?
I don't think people link very much in which they want help and advice posts.

but it could happen...and some people put pictures in their posts...
