Are my periods weird I started about 3 years ago and they have always been ridiculously irregular. I have had a period lasting about a month and a half, I have had ones lasting 2 days, I have skipped 6 months then had 2 in a month. They can come anytime.. is this normal and will they ever settle down?

Also sometimes when they have skipped months they are so heavy I have to change pads every half hour or so for a couple of days.. this seems far too heavy I think..?

thanks :D

huh...irregularity is normal...but a MONTH?! You could just go an get on birth control pills, talk to a doctor. ...probably in reverse order.

If you're bleeding enough to regularly soak through a pad in half an hour, you should see your doctor. Bleeding for several weeks on end also isn't something you should just let slide. It may not be anything serious, but it's a good thing to check out, just to be sure.

Birth control can actually be a good option. It will regulate your hormones, which can keep your periods shorter, lighter, and less of a hassle overall. I'm on birth control to manage my periods, and it's working wonder for me. There can be other options, but don't write it off just because one person had a bad experience. There's no saying you'll have the same problem. Also, you'll probably stay on it for a while because it'll be what's keeping your periods normal. After you're off of it, you'll start going back to how you were before. It's possible that you won't "need" it forever, of course. Unless there's an underlying cause these things tend to regulate themselves with time.

Check it out though. Best to be safe. :)

I'd go the birth control route. You'd react differently to it than your friend.

talk to your doctor, these sort of things shouldn't be diagnosed over the internet.

I always had very heavy periods. They were relatively regular, they usually lasted a week and came every 35 days or so. It got to the point where they were just so heavy, and I was so fed up with it that I practically broke down emotionally and told my mom that I couldn't take it anymore. So, she took me to a gynecologist and he put me on Seasonique birth control. The great thing about Seasonique is that you only have to have a period 4 times a year. I was so happy I cried.

It worked for a while, but then I started having really heavy period-like breakthrough, so I went back and the doctor put me on a pill with a higher dosage of estrogen. That didn't work, so then he decided to let me take birth control continually, or skip the placebos and just take active pills every day so I don't have a period. That didn't work either, sooo he decided to do a laparoscopic surgery to find out what was wrong. That was when he found out I had endometriosis. He did a D&C and after that I just got on a different type of birth control which I take continually, it's called Necon, and I haven't had any problems since.

I'm not trying to scare you or anything, I'm just saying that birth control can be a very good thing. =) You should go to the doctor.
