Is biting the skin off your fingers considered self harm, i do it all the time, (more since i've been trying to stop), and i was just wondering, i took the top 2 or 3 layers off once...

Hmm, are you intentionally trying to cause harm to yourself? Or is it just a certain habit of yours?

It is a form of self-harm, but a habit is easier to curb than a motive to hurt yourself is.

Try simple methods to stop yourself from biting your fingers for now, maybe write on your hands "DO NOT BITE FINGERS!" or cover up your hands. When you sit down, try sitting on your hands. Or just occupy yourself with something to distract you from biting them (E.G. typing, texting, writing, drawing, gardening :P, cooking etc).

i fiddle with things too, cant help it, i fidget a lot too, for my gcse's i'm watched by 1 invidgilator (examinor, overseer what ever) at ALL times, coz i fidget so much, kinda embarrasing, but i make it into a game, seeing how much i can surprise them with what i can do ^^

I think it's just a habit maybe from OCD. Cause pulling out your hair is a OCD habit called Trichotillomania, but some people say pulling out your hair is also a form of self-harm.

(*Golly, that Marcie's good!*).

Aside from the intent, Aaron, it's probably not such a good thing to be doing. Maybe it's all that nervous energy, maybe it's 'habit', maybe it's a release of some of the tension, who knows, it's probably part of all the other stuff you've got inside. But, it's also an opportunity for you to practice some awareness of what you're doing, and exert some self control These things can be stopped, if you're aware and you control the urge.

i used to have the same habit as you biting my nails and the skin at the finger tips i used to always have to put plasters on them cus just the air gettin at it would sting like hell.

but my dad got me this stuff that makes your fingers taste as if you've just sprayed deoderant directly in your mouth. and i've stopped for about 4years by constant use
