No it's not bad for you and where did you hear having random erections meant it was growing? It is just your hormones giving you these random erections and has no vital part in puberty. ( I Think )

I remember watching a sex-ed video from the '50s that said frequent masturbation would lead to insanity! How could masturbation have any effect on you whatsoever that sexual intercourse itself could not? It's just silly. Unless you count 'friction burn', masturbation has no negative physical effects.
