Reasons to use to text girl

I am interested in this girl, but I don't really have next to any chances to see her in real life, but I do have her number, and she has mine. Now, recently I have been very interested in trying to talk to her more, and given the circumstances, I figure over the phone would be the best chance, but I'm afraid she'll just get creeped out if she starts getting text from me out of the blue. I want to get to be her friend so I can eventually ask her out, but I know that if I were in her position and just got a lot of messages out of no where from someone I don't talk to that often, I would think something was up. Now, should I just start doing it with some lame excuse on the first one, and risk her talking to her friends about how I'm being really friendly out of no where, and have that be spread on to everyone I talk to, or is there something else I could do.

I know this isn't the most thought out, well written post, so if anything needs to be elaborated just ask and I will try to explain better.

Don't worry, texting a girl is something you're allowed to overthink.

First of all, don't text her all that often, first maybe once a week. Then like every 4 days, then every other day. Be gradual, if she doesn't respond to the first one, don't sweat it, wait a few days and text her again.

Now the reason to text her, the first text is the hardest. Use what you know about her. If you can't think of anything good, or it sounds really lame just say. "Hey, haven't seen you in a while, what's up?" She'll respond (hopefully) then just keep the conversation going. Be casual, be confident, you can win her over!
