i can easily see that so many people are attracted to punk music. but im also gonna have to go with the "other" option because i have noticed a slow increase in the people listening to electronic music/techno/rave

Years don't really focus on one genre. Pop/RnB etc is the main stream stuff, thats what most people listen to. It is whats played on most radio stations etc.
All the other genres still exist..
There is plenty of activity in all genres, you just might not notice it.
Therefore I say this year, like every year will be the year of all music.
Oh and saying there has been no good music so far this year?
That is opinion. A pretty sucky one, but an opinion at that.
