hi. i am a 14 year old guy with a few questions...

first, is it normal to masterbate to thoughts of naked men? i know for a fact that i am not gay, because i have no emotional attraction whatsoever. is it just raging teenage hormones? or should i do my best to keep these thoughts from my head??

For starters I would try and not let my religion interfere too much with my life. If you want to though that is your choice. However do whatever you feel is right and whatever seems right to you. And just because you think of men while masturbating does not make you gay. It is just as you said raging hormones.

Well the bible does say its a sin, but in all fairness the social situation when it comes to masturbation has changed dramatically since it was written. I do it quite alot and im certain that if you lead a good life God can overlook something as trivial as a few wanks when you were a teenager.... don't you?

As for porn, i'm trying to cut down, not because of religion, but because i just dont like the thought of it as much anymore... it seems slightly desperate to jack off to it lol.

And the masturbating whilst thinking of men. I know that my mind wanders slightly while im wanking, and so it should.. think about whatever the hell you want! Its your time to think about things with no social constraints, so if you think about men get on with it, theres no problem with it! (and yea, its probably just hormones) :P

Masturbation is not a sin, neither is looking at pornography. That is my opinion, lots of different people have different views on this however as the bible can be interpreted in many different ways on this subject, although there is nothing in the Bible which says that it is a sin. I really woudln't worry though; masturbation is a perfectly natural thing to do and so is looking at porn.

Naked guys are arousing, getting turned on by erect penises just means your eyes work. You are correct in assuming that you need more than arpusal to be gay. if you find your urges uncomfortable, you can direct them elsewhere and choose other images or thoughts to masturbate to.

next, is it a sin to look at pornography? or should i stop with that to??? no one knows what God wants or what He thinks of porn or masturbation, these are all interpretations by others. You can choose to interpret your urges and responses to them as you see fit. Just remember that porn isn't necessarily an accurate portrayal of either relationships or of sex, it's more about 'entertainment' than fact.

last, should i all together stop masterbating??? i have heard that that is a sin, but i have also heard that it is not. it's really impossible to completely stop masturbating, b/c it's caused by a purely biological drive, the sex drive. So, the task is to have ot fit comfortably into your life, to incorporate it so it's there when you want and need it, and not interferring when you don't want or need it.

This advice is non sectarian, btw. It's based on our membership in humanity, which supersedes religious affiliation.

My thinking is that based upon what you told us is that you are more likely looking at other males because you see features on them that you like for yourself as opposed to actually wanting to have sex with them. For example, if strong legs, a large penis, big arms, etc. are all things that you like, then when you see a developed guy, be it in porn or in real life, then it is natural that you will think about such features. Basically, you want those features for yourself as opposed to any sexual reason.

As for getting those thoughts out of your head, don't worry about them as they won't make you gay. If you look at those thoughts as appreciating the human body, then you will be fine as the human body is a pretty beautiful thing.

This is a really hard question, and everything depends upon your upbringing. What I will say is that most guys our age look at porn as our hormones are in overdrive. As long as you understand that porn is totally fake and never would expect your future sexual partner to be like the porn actors/actresses and that porn is a totally exaggerated version of sex, then you can handle it. Just don't develop a dependance on porn as you want to be able to masturbate without it, too. In my view, as long as the porn is not illegal or features people who are hurting others in the course of doing sex acts, then it is not necessarily bad. Just make sure you understand that porn is fake, and you will be fine.

Short of you being one of those Buddhist monks who it is said can seperate their minds from their bodies it is going to be super, super hard for a teenage guy like yourself in the middle of puberty to stop masturbating. I think there is some obscure verse in the Old Testament which indirectly seemed to say masturbating was bad, but my understanding is the story was part of a much larger story of the person who masturbated being on the outs with God for something else. Roman Catholicism is not a very sex-friendly sect of Christianity, and it does have all sorts of restriction about sexuality. Just know that as long as masturbating is done in moderation, then you are fine. Masturbating is not bad as long as it doesn't take over your life or alter your routines to the point of where masturbating is deciding your plans for the day. Also, recognize that sex and masturbating are different things with sex obviously being between two people whereas masturbating being with just one person.

Again, the Roman Catholic Church has all these prohibitions on masturbation and other things. From my perspective I don't think those rules and doctrines have much basis on reality, and remember that there is a difference between a dogma and a doctrine. A dogma is something that you absolutely must believe otherwise without it you are missing out on a critical aspect of something. A doctrine is something that can be believed in, but if one does not follow it one can still be part of the something. For example, a dogma for the Roman Catholic Church is that one must believe in Jesus Christ. If one does not believe in Jesus Christ, then on is not a Roman Catholic (or Christian for that matter). A doctrine would be the church's teaching on masturbation. Sure, it is frowned upon to do so, but masturbating does not put you out of the Church or violate some core belief of the Church. Basically, one can be a perfectly good Christian and masturbate as long as masturbation is done in moderation and doesn't take over your life. It is fine to masturbate as nearly all teen guys do so.
