Oh, thanks Aaron!

I'll catch it later, when I have time to focus. I've watched documentaries before... Not sure if they helped or not, but it's nice to know that others do take notice of the "illness".

This was actually really good.

I'm shocked at the statistics of now - 1 in 5 teens have self harmed with 1 in 3 girls having self harmed. There are more British teenagers diagnosed with mental health issue than any other country. 1 in 4 teens are depressed. Children from broken families are two or threes times more likely to self harm and teenagers who are confused about their sexuality are also more likely to self harm. The list goes on...

I'm thinking of getting a copy of 'Scarred'... It's awful that someone could go through so much and I'm interested to actually read about it. It's also appalling when she reads the reports from the hospitals dealing with self inflicted injuries... When staff have replied with the attitude of "I'm not helping because they did it to themselves." ..It's disgusting.

That "Harm Minimisation" seems like a really good idea. You're allowed to S/H as long as you do the paperwork on it. Including name, date, reasons, injuries, diagram... It's kind of like the S/H Calendar, I guess, but when you look back on it you kinda think "why the hell did I need to do that?" and you can look at it the next time you feel the need to do harm yourself again. Also, the therapy sessions, afterwards would probably reduce what I do, because I absolutely LOATHE talking about it to anyone face-to-face...

Really good documentary for anyone, including self harmers, parents and even people who just want to understand it a bit more.

IF YOU'RE BRITISH AND HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET, I URGE YOU TO DO SO SOON!

I just watched it about two hours ago... althought it has helped me see sense that it was wrong it was a major trigger for me... =/ back down to 0 days now...

it was soo...accurate though... not like patronising or OTT or anything...

I felt like that Danny girl...

and that woman with all them scars on her arms?? I... I was jealous! D:

and the razor blade with blood on around the sixth form bit... very. very. jealous. and triggering...

although it seems like it did me bad, it did help... tonight was the first night in over a month(since i started again)), that i have cried... i had replace it with cutting....=/ although at the same time i am not sure if it is bad that it is back or not because i am still cutting so i have both things...

i dont know my mind is a mess right now, nothign makes sense.

Oh and I was amazed at the stats too... and the whole 2/3 in broken homes will cut/people who are confused on sexuality etc etc.... that bit... i fit into so many categories...

and i want to get the book too, but ill borrow it from the library....

I found a way for the Americans/Canadians/etc to watch it.

Go to Graboid.com. You have to download Graboid and then you have to create an account, it's free for about 30 days.

Cheers spin, and hope everyone takes something good away from it, it is dangerous and will lead to terrible things. If anyone wants the information for the Samaritans, i have it.

Wow, Ive just watched it and I was amazed by the statistics.
And when those 6th formers were talking about it, I could relate to everything they said.
It has really made me want to do something about all this. :/

I don't actually think I could do much now. I'll try to.
But I will make it so that my future career will help people. :)

i watched it and i really liked it.
But theres one thing i dont understand -
Why do self harmers get laughed at so much.
Theres so many jokes about self injury but so many people do it. It doesnt make sense to me.

Project Delta
June 7th, 2009, 11:29 AM
Thats great leigh.
And i'm also confused by it too Nightfighter

BeautifulSilence

Well, Sarah & Aaron, it's that thing about the whole "they've done it to themselves, they deserve the pain" ...Unfortunately, not enough people are aware of it. And until the most ignorant people wanna look at the situation and actually attempt to understand it, there'll always be a fight for self harmers to be understood.

I have to say i didnt actually enjoy the show that much!
i think thats just me it was all good and everything but i feel like its a box and i really dont deal well with being boxed i think theres more to Shing then just what they showed on the tv it was abit stunted with it views i think if i were have to make it i probably would have dived deeper into it talk to more people and actually found that its not this sterotypical cutting on certain people but thats just my opion other then that i really liked the show!
just made norrow by what gets ratings and what doesnt on tv!

Project Delta

Yeah its true Danielle, they couldnt explain it all, after all its a 1 hour programme!

NightFighter

I found out my sister also self harms sometimes, not often and she not addicted or anything but i was really surprised because she always made jokes about self injurers (made me feel like crap). So i asked her why she made fun of selfharmers she said "So no one was suspicious of me doing it."
What do you think?

Project Delta
June 8th, 2009, 09:57 AM
Hmm... to be honest seems like a good explaination for why she makes jokes, at least she doesnt do it too often!

BeautifulSilence
June 8th, 2009, 10:04 AM
It's just her way of dealing with being "different" by having a mental illness. She's obviously ashamed of it (I don't really know many S/Hers who aren't) and she doesn't want to risk being found out and made to feel different.

Project Delta
June 8th, 2009, 10:13 AM
One of my friends, has an attention seeking S/her she does it in front of people. If its a cry for help... its not totally obvious. she doesnt do it too deep.

I watcched it last night; thanks for the link:) it was really good i thought, opened my eyes to see that its not just us out there that self-harm, and not all adults think were bad people for it. (if that makes any sense at all)

Project Delta
June 9th, 2009, 03:32 PM
Yeah it does, it truly made me think a lot more about it to be honest

NightFighter
June 9th, 2009, 03:35 PM
Yeah, i was kinda under the impression that all the adults thought self harm is sick and just totally didnt understand it but after watching i guess i was wrong. Im happy i was wrong.
