Well today, i went to the dentist, and found out that i need to have a root canal, and i was wondering... how much is this going to *stink*, because it is about a $400 dollar difference on being unconscious or not that insurance will not cover, making a total around $1000 for me to be unconcious.

It's going to hurt a lot...
Do the dentists allow you to take pain killers before?

well that is why i want to know how much pain it will be, because i am really not good with that... like i had my wisdom teeth pulled, and i had a panic attack and passed out before i was put unconscious for it, and i am considering being unconscious for it... but it will cost an extra $400 that insurance will not pay for

I'd get knocked out if I were you.
They take a drill, and drill INTO your tooth, where your nerves are at, no amount of pain killers will keep you from feeling the pain.

That is what i want to do.... but we are spending more than we have right now because her car decided to have all its problems at once... along with my drivers ed, and alot of other things i dont really want to say online... but in short, i will have to wait longer being in alot of pain for me to be knocked out

Or you could just wait for the pain to knock you out.....
Seriously though, I would try and see if you can come up with the money.

Eh, if money's tight then, see what (if any) pain killers you can take before going in. And ask for all the NO2 he's got. :p
Also, would it cost extra for local anesthesia?

Wait! The endodontist will use lots of novocain, so you won't feel a thing, and if he's fairly modern, he'll also have headphones for you to listen to some tunes (or better yet, bring the ipod along). It's not as traumatic as you might think.

Unless you're really one of those with a major dental phobia, you probably don't need to be knocked out.

I actually am a dental phobic person... i cant stand it... and my sister is the same way too, i cannot stand hearing someone drilling away at me while i sit there in pain
