So, I've been told by various counselors that I have what they call an "addictive personality." That is, I'm very suspectible to addiction: nicotine, alcohol, pornography, masturbation, drugs, you get the idea.

My problem is, yesterday I had a tooth surgically removed (it was coming in sideways:eek:) and they gave me this stuff called hydrocodone. And now I can't stop taking it. I'm not going over the dosing instructions, but EVERY four hours I take one (I woke up in the middle of the night to take one). I need to figure out how to stop this, I feel like I'm on a leash!

They probably didn't give you any more than they thought you would need. Once your prescription runs out, don't re-new it. If you feel that you NEED another pill, not want, but need, you may have become addicted to it.
Vicodin (Generically hydrocodone) addiction can be very difficult, and usually require going to a rehabilitation center to get off the addiction.

I'd do what Jesse said; just ride out the rest of the prescription, and if you still feel that you have an addiction to the drug, go to your doctor, have a chat about it and see what they recommend.

As I said, ride out the prescription your doc gave you. He gave you a set amount of pills, and a schedule for taking them, for a reason you know. When you have surgery done, you will need pain meds, and while there's still pain, you'll feel the need for more pills.

The docs gave you a med to numb the pain. If you're not in pain, exert some self control here and don't take them! Having a 'predisposition' doesn't excuse the behavior of abusing meds.

Totally right, being predisposed to drug abuse doesn't make it okay. Ask your mum or dad to help administer the drugs if you don't think you can handle it.

Well, gee, thanks for the help! If you happen to have any extra self-control just lying around, feel free to send it my way.

*WHOOSH!* Done! There, did it work?

Self control is something that can be developed if practiced, look at this as an opportunity to practice it. See what happens, you might be surprised with yourself!

Hydro is very addictive. I had to use it when I was having major back pains. Bleh. I would suggest you try taking as little as possible.
