I dreamed a dream, where in my mind
I left my humdrum life behind,
and all at once transformed became
a superstar of global fame.

All the people clapped and cheered
this person whom they first had jeered.
All the people looked at me,
a bright star in the galaxy.

Goodbye to the old church mouse,
goodbye to the spinster's house
with slippers, Horlicks, book and cat,
no more wasted life like that.

The new and glamorous me is found
on chatshows, nationally renowned.
Cameras greet me in the street
and people worship at my feet.

My hair should not be such a mess,
I ought to buy a better dress.
But people grumble "Dont do that,
we like you looking wierd and fat".

And then I saw a singing boy,
the judges comments did annoy!
I'll show that upstart little sod
who's best. (I'm feeling rather odd.)

Simon really is a dear,
Amanda is a flirt I fear,
Piers would make me very merry
if he'd only take my cherry.

And now the dream has all gone wrong,
the people seemed to like my song,
but when the votes were counted in
they told me that I didnt win.

You can stick you stupid fame,
now I barely know my name.
I dream a dream of council flat
with slippers, Horlicks, book and cat.

(No cruelty intended, with sympathy for a person thrown to the wolves for public entertainment)

This is quite simply awesome again Nick, your poems have a really nice rhythm to them; they're really nice to read :)
