The reason that happened is because the kid was chosen at the wrong age. When the reincarnation of a Tibetin master like Geshe Lama Konchog has to be in under four years after his death. And the child has to be from age 1 to one in a half. For two reasons - After that age, it's harder to remove the child from their parents. Secondly, it's easier to teach him the religion at a young, young age.

The kid they chose this time was too old.
