Nerd is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests rather than engaging in more social or popular activities. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activities and considered a loner by peers, or will tend to associate with like-minded people.
Just because you're into the stereotypical Star-trek/wars and computers, doesn't mean you're a nerd.
Take a step into a technical career center, look around at the computer sections, you'll find very few people who one would consider a 'nerd', but MANY who one would consider 'cool' or similar.

There are quite a few in society that would. But don't be concerned with them...

I can tell you that people may view you as one. I am really a stereotypical nerd, but I have many "cool" friends.
