Back when we used phpBB you the feature wasnt called 'close' as it is with vBulletin but was called 'lock'. So it just stuck. :)

most other forms say 'thread locked'
and... the button to lock it is a little.. you guessed it, LOCK.

[yay for diary moderation!]

and on some skins it says lock
[ignore the file name on the attachment, i'm too lazy to load to photobucket]

It would be cooler if it said "Geschlossen" like it does on the forums of this game I used to play that was of German origins. 0.o

But yeah, I don't think this is that big of a deal. I never even noticed what it said before. :D

I don't know why other than that we used to be phpBB (before my time :P) and the term is locked on phpBB, but they basically mean the same on the forum. Plus, the "Closed" button/symbol thing is a lock.

I'll make an effort to say 'closed' or 'geschslossen' just for you two. :)

It doesn't really matter if a mod says "Locked" or "Closed" as it still means the same thing. :P

I mean, technically called "Closed". Even on like...moderation pages and such it says closed but "locked" is a simpler term I think, it is older, and it is clearer I believe. A thread is "locked". So you can't access it...but I guess closed is clear too. The thread is "closed" to new posts.

Idk, lock is just an older more general term.

I suppose "locked" gives more of an idea that the thread is unaccessible presumably forever, whereas "closed" gives more of an idea that the thread is temporarily unaccessable. It's like saying a store is closed, one generally assumes it's only closed for a bit. On the other hand, saying a store is locked, one generally assumes that it's shut down for good.
