Not sure if theres a post about this but im making one now. :)
so summer is almost here for some of us. and just thinking about it feels like im going to have a heat stroke. some friends have already invited me to pool parties which i respectfully decline.

So how do you all (past or current self harmers) deal with summer?
or at least tolorate it?
i know its going to be rough with me. sitting in my room all summer does not sound very good. i cant just *cover up* my scars with make up or anything either.

last year was a little easier. i could where short sleeves.. i just cut in every other place. so no swimming but camping was okay. i told my mom im not going camping this year and she got angry but finally agreed. i told her i was too *old* for that anymore.

im a mess.

Sterling.

I honestly don't know what to say or how to help you. I think the best thing for you to do is see if you can find a way to cover up your scars so you can wear short sleeves and maybe go to pool parties. I know you're afraid of what people will think, and I know its tough... I mean, trust me, there are certain people who could care less if you have scars, they'll accept you like a normal person (I know I certainly would), but you have the right to be afraid of what other people will think and how other people will react.

I honestly don't know what type of advice to give you Sterling. If you need someone to talk to though, I'm here for you forever always. :)

I get nervous over a lot of things too Sterling. I always freak out and worry about people accepting me. I mean, what I have (depression + OCD to an extent) is certainly easier to conceal than scars, but I still always want to tell someone at my school that "I'm depressed" and "My head is messed up" but I'm always afraid of what people will think. It sucks; it sucks a lot. But just know that no matter how confused or upset or nervous you feel, I'll seriously ALWAYS be here for you. :)

I don't go anywhere with friends any time of the year.. cause i doubt many people would wanna hang with me anyways, so summers good for me, i'll spend it alone in my room.

there are a range of light shirts available around the place...that are light enough to wear camping etc. but also enough that your scars wont be visible.

one of the best things you can do to reduce the scars, instead of just covering them up, is putting vitimin E cream or bio-oil on them. these will fix the tissue underneath, and reduce the scars. :)

Well we haven't had a decent summer over here for years, so if this year is the same I will get by in hoodies all summer. I think the forecasts are for a hot summer though, unfortunately, so I will probably be investing in arm warmers, because at least I can wear t-shirts with those and that's one less layer which is better than melting in the heat.

Truth- yeah for some reason school always has me tense,,, so summer is very relaxing :)

The-Never-Cycle-- vitimin E cream or bio-oil ? i will have to check that out soon.

Miss punk- Yeah our summers are usually all the same. Hot hot hot. but arm warmers are cool :) hot topic has cute ones

Long T-shirts work for a while but somtimes it just gets TOOO hott. You should use the scar healing cream but i also put cover up on mine, for the really deep ones there not much help. If there on ur arms then u can wear ace bandeges over then and say u hurt ur wrist or somthing. It works if u dont use it too often. For me i mostly stay out in the woods behind my house alone and like you decline invites to any sort of thing where skin has to show. I have them almost everywhere so i do understand. There just needs to be an complete scar heal cream, but there isnt.

(pooly thought out) yeah i get what you meann.. thanks for the ideas :] yeah i wish there was a magical cream that just completly erases them.. but sadly theres not. somtimes i wear underarmor (sport shirt thing) under my jacket and it feels nice and cool. not sure why though

Yeah exactly i own so many tight long sleeve shirts like under armor. I actually stopped cutting for about a month once (in the summer) and the scars i had could be covered up by makeup. I felt so free. But then i started again and the scars got deeper and deeper. Maby summer will be insentive to slow down a bit.

Yeah i remember like over a year ago i was freaking out because i had barely any longsleeve shirts... and now thats all i have. And after i havent cut in a long time and everything starts to fade, free is a good way to decribe it. whats your name?

I love living in england at times like these, in the summer it reaches like half what it does over yours, we call like 90 degrees a heatwave xD
Long sleeve shirts for me

you can get long sleeve tops that are quite light. Like a kaftan or something :S They don't usually cause any extra heat, plus if it's white it'll reflect the sun.
Thats the only reason why it's great living in Scotland. No sun basically ever.

I'm going to get myself some arm warmers, cos the past few years I've been lucky, there hasn't been much of a summer, but this year there's a heatwave forecast so I'd better be prepared.

They're just like long fingerless gloves that go up to the elbow, they're wonderful for hiding scars if they go with your look, and they come in lots of styles. You can find them in shops like Claire's.

Im going away over summer on holiday so i bought Bio oil.
Its worked alright. The scars just go white and shiny. It says allow atleast 3 months for them to appear better. You could try putting make up on the scars and you can get spray on plaster that is water proof to put ontop so the makeup doesnt run. Im not sure how good itl look but its an idea. Remember that scars will look worse to you because you are more aware of them as they are onl nyhour body so other people might not notice so much. Hope i helped :)
