View Full Version : White flash?

I've been noticing for the past few weeks that I've been getting a weird flash. Sometimes it's a line, while other times it's just a dot flying around. Most of the time it's white, however sometimes it's black. It shows up in both the peripheral vision areas and right in front of my eyes.

Also, another question. When I look up at the sky, I see all clear dots (and sometimes black) and stuff moving around. Also happens when I look at walls. In addition, I also start seeing random lines if I see the dots. Like, I look up, see the dots, and see a bunch of little lines flashing in my vision really quickly. They're there for about a split second (actually, they sorta fade after a few seconds of paying attention to them) , but then the dots still remain. Sometimes the dots appear to create a sort of 'rainy' effect; while no rain is visible, the dots tend to move in the pattern of falling rain.

Anyone have any clue as to what's going on? I mean, this has happened to me for a long time, but lately I've been noticing it more. Then again, I had a lot of anxiety for months and I'm still under a bit of stress because my grades slipped quite a bit in that time, so maybe it has something to do with stress?

Thanks guys.

Also, if it helps, I've been getting a lot of migraines in the past month or so.

Does the flash happen before the migraine? Those flashes are actually a symptom and "warning sign" of migraines. All of those vision problems are. You should probably see your doctor about it. I just went through all this with my doctor, and I learned about the flashes when I was getting my eyes checked. I personally don't have the flashes, I have the kind of migraine that show no warning signs.

Visual aura is the most common of the neurological events. There is a disturbance of vision consisting usually of unformed flashes of white and/or black or rarely of multicolored lights (photopsia) or forma*tions of dazzling zigzag lines (scintillating scotoma; often arranged like the battlements of a castle, hence the alternative terms "fortification spectra" or "teichopsia"[citation needed]). Some patients complain of blurred or shimmering or cloudy vision, as though they were look*ing through thick or smoked glass, or, in some cases, tunnel vision and hemianopsia. The somatosensory aura of migraine consists of digitolingual or cheiro-oral paresthesias, a feeling of pins-and-needles experienced in the hand and arm as well as in the nose-mouth area on the same side. Paresthesia migrate up the arm and then extend to involve the face, lips and tongue.

That's a bit about it from wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migraine)
