Right, so mods, I know I'm a mod, but I feel it goes here, but move if you so wish.
What is everyone's views and experiences with foreign exchange students whether hosting them or being one maybe, or just being a good friend with one? Do share please. Because my family is considering hosting one, and just want some other people's input.

my school does it. we had japanese ones i think last year. a few people had one in our year. because of the language barrier it was hard to communicate, so the starting of friendships was hard, but at our school they told people who had them (i think it was for a week) just to involve them in your normal daily activities. so if you go shopping, take them shopping. if you go to the footy, take them to the footy, etc. anyways, apparently it was an interesting experience for them and i think they enjoyed it. so i can't personally recommend it, but others i know can recommend it.

I think it's a nice thing to do (rewarding as well) because you will be a key part in that student's study (http://www.hitflip.de/books/) abroad experience! Being away from home is really scary I think, so if you're willing to make someone's exchange an easier and enjoyable experience, then I would say go for it!
