View Full Version : Really horrible scars now getting in the way of life.

I haven't cut myself since just before Easter, the last time I cut was my legs and pledged to myself to never do it again. I haven't, although it does actually seem tempting sometimes, but no, I don't.
But I'm left with some of the most awful scars. I have 31 cuts on my left arm, 8 small ones on my left hand, 1 small one on my right hand, 5 on my right arm and 3 on my legs. 2 on one, 1 on the other. So that's nearly 50 cuts altogether.
Some have faded with time, and some have only started to heel. But I'm left with a few really horrible ones on my arms.
I can't wear a sleeveless shirt or anything like that, I have to wear sleeves to hide them, even at home. I also stopped doing PE, which is swimming this year at school because of them, although I only have one more swimming class left.
I cut myself with a razor blade, and bled each time. I'm wondering if these scars will eventually heal, at least to the point until they're un-noticeble?

Well, rarely are life's lessons without cost.
I think the important thing here is to maybe use those scars as a reminder of things PAST, of a behavior you have (rightfully) decided is no longer of use to you, and that you have (mercifully) abandoned. You have turned an important corner. With time, depending on how deep the scars are and how recent they are, they'll likely fade to some degree with time.
So, keeping this in the past, and maybe as a more active reminder of what you don't want to be doing, I'd remember 2 things: First, don't let them hold you back from participating in current activities, and 2) They're more than likely 'fixable' by a plastic surgeon later on, so what you've got is temporary.
The important thing is to recognize that particular chapter in your life is over, and that you're recovering from a very bad nightmare. The rest is easy.

I think the best thing you can do for the scars now, to reduce visibility etc. is to rub bio-oil or vitimin E cream on them...
as long as the blade didn't go through all of the layers of skin, there is a very very good chance that they will go away, as the skin dies and falls off, leaving new skin underneath.

Vitamin E can do wonders, that's what I use. You're lucky you don't have nearly as many scars as me (granted, i've been a cutter for two years. Cut-free for 7months now.(: )
But anyways, Vitamin E can be bought for about $2.00 at a drugstore or BigLots. It's a softshelled pill, poke it with a needle or something sharp, then put the gooey stuff that comes on on your scars. Rub it into your skin. I'd recommend doing this before bed. Wash it off well in the morning. It's pretty oily, but it doesn't make your skin greasy or cause pimples. It's the best thing, that I know of, that you should use.
Feel free to ask if you need anything else.
