View Full Version : What Makes a Good Film?

For me, it has to have a good story - that grabs my attention BEFORE the first half hour (very rare with mainstream cinema).

Then, a great cast. Doesn't matter how much money you make, how many films you star in or how many girls want you in their bed, if you can't act, I'm leaving!

Umm. I hate dodgey effects and a waste of money... Usually, low budget movies are much more my thing.

Oh, I guess a good director is useful, but... That depends. Some directors just have some good, some bad films.... Meh. Being in Drama, I guess it DOES help to have a good director. I mean, for my final exam, I took on that role and no one gave me any direction (can't direct myself) so my acting was probably a little suckish.

Anyway. Videography, sound etc. All components that I don't really care about...

DISCUSS.

If it's supposed to be a comedy, make it funny. If it's supposed to be a drama, make it a drama. I hate sort of sad, half funny stuff.

Plot, plot, plot and plot. But also I want to be able to feel what the chars are feeling not feel like the actions of the cast are questionable and are out of place.

I guess a great plot/storyline breaks the ice for me. Special effects can be a plus, but it's not the end of the world I suppose.
