Ok last ngiht i fell asleep not knowing where my laptop was it ended up to be under my sheets it over heated because it was still on
Then it started shutting off it only happen twice but then my laptop has been over heating really badly right now its starting to get bad
My mom said that it could be from last night but im sorta doubting that because i have left my laptop under my sheets before and it never did that
Could it be the fan or did it over heat too much last night?

Btw if this helps anything its a comqac

I think it is the fan. I'm pretty sure if it turned it's self off last night it would be ok. But maybe the fan was overworked and now it is not running properly. But to be certain you should probably go to your local computer store and ask for help.

Well, the only thing you could do about it is, A. get a fan thingy(forgot the name :P) or B. get a new one.
But, there could be other things you could do. I am jsut no aware of them.

Look into the fins where the fan is, does it looked blocked? If you can't see, try shining a light up where the intake is, on the bottom of the laptop, then look into the fins on the side.
Dust could have built up enough to block airflow over the heatsink, causing your laptop to overheat. If it's blocked, you need to CAREFULLY take apart your laptop and clean the dust out.

I doubt that the frequent overheating was caused by the overheating last night, usually the BIOS will cut the power before any damage is caused by heat.
It's far more likely that the fan sucked up dust and fuzz from your sheets, clogging the fins on the heatsink.

if you had it under the sheets you way have damaged your hard dive
sum laptops don;t have bios and you may need to clean your fan :)

It wouldn't have effected the hard drive at all. And every laptop in the world has BIOS. Please make sure you know what you're talking about before replying.

I'm glad you got it sorted anyway, I clean mine out every couple of months to keep it cool and clean.
