You should tell your counselor whatever you feel comfortable with. He's there to help you, and the best way he can do that is if he knows what's going on for you. So, if you're feeling better seeing him, if the therapy is working and you feel confident with him, then you might wat to let him know what's going on for you. In much the same way that he's been able to help you with that other *stuff* you've been talking about, he can help with the cutting, too.

If you request it of him, he can keep it confidential. If he agrees to this confidentiality, then he can only legally (and rightfully) tell your parent or guardians if he feels you are in life or death danger. Your school does not have to know at all, because it's all part of medical privacy. You do have the right to confidentiality and medical privacy from everyone but your parents or guardians because they are legally responsible for you.
It's a good idea to tell him because he can really help you if you are cutting, and he will be able to tailor to you specially. It's always good to tell counsilors the whole story so they can help you better.

Personally I’d tell him because he’s your best friend trust me it’ll be for your own good.

Dstnyisurs is right. (I finally got the name. lol.) I was just about to comment on how there should be doctor/patient confidentiality laws in which he can't tell the school everything. You should definitely ask him about that, and I'm pretty sure that not only will you ensure that you're being protected/ made comfortable, but it should also help with the trust you have in your counselor. That way, it may be easier to talk with him about your cutting and other problems.

Yeah this is true. If you feel comfortable enough to tell him about the cutting then thats good but if your worried about him telling other people then run all this by him about privacy and stuff for peace at mind. I doubt he'd be allowed to tell anyone cos when i had a counsellor at college she assured me that she was only allowed to tell anyone if she thought my life was at risk e.g. if i threatened to commit suicide or something like that.
