Blackheads occur when the oils from the skin solidify in the pore into what's called a 'comedo', a wax like substance. It becomes black when the tip pushes to the surface and oxidizes in the air.

To get rid of them, you can gently squeeze the pore by grasping it btw'n the index finger and thumb. This will remove the entire comedo (including the blackened tip).

ive always been told that popping zits it bad for you... hmm. but heres a safe way to do it http://www.acne-resource.org/acne-articles/remove-zits.html
what i use is just this generic acne cream. just apply it places where you have zits or where you are prone to get zits

Acne/Zits are different then blackheads.

You're right, Caleb, popping zits is bad for you as it increases the chances of scarring and pitting. That's b/c a zit is the result of an inflammation of the sebaceous (oil) gland, and popping it bursts it (and the surface), which vreates a wound (which often takes longer to heal than the zit if you left it alone, anyway).

A blackhead results from the pore getting clogged. So you want to unclog the pore, and to do that, you can gently squeeze it between your fingers in the AM before you wash while your face is a bit oilier.

Then you want to keep your face clean, wash daily with a mild soap, and maybe put an astringent on (like Witch Hazel or zit cream) to dry the excess oil and (hopefully) prevent the pores from getting clogged.

Zits= no popping, because they're caused by internal inflammation (sebceous gland).

Blackheads= popping b/c you need to unclog the pore.

Clearasil Blackhead Wipes are ftw, although once a few days after using them i got a huge zit on the side of my nose...

You can get strips which you attach to your nose and peel off, and it pulls out dirt from the skin and most blackheads, but they're pretty expensive.
