Some people may be busy for a logn time and when they come back, they will probally want to be able to use their account, and why do you think they should be deleted?

We actually rarely delete accounts period. Since I've been a member only one account has been deleted that I know of because it was necessary for their privacy or whatever.
We don't do this because it creates massive holes in topics, threads, etc.

Plus:
What if they want to come back?
I've known plenty of people who became active again after long periods of inactivity.
And what's wrong with having old accounts?

people will always have problems. stuff might be fine for a year but then go bad and then they come here to find there accounts deleted and have to re register and htat would just get annoying. nad it would be too much work for the admins

Wow.

How ignorant can you be to want that?

Even I've been gone for around four months in the past.

People have things happen to them, good or bad, that prevent them from going on here.

People can be without a computer for months at a time... People can move on from this site, but still visit once a year, etc... Four months is nothing. Maybe people who haven't logged on in five years, but even that's a stretch, considering this site almost never deletes any accounts.

I swear there was a thread about this a few months ago.
But umm yea, thats a no.
Why? Because what if the person came back? Then they would create a new account? That would cause multiple accounts and a headache for the seniors.
So umm...yea, there are other reasons but I think that one is the biggest.

Besides all of the given reasons, it's just a hassle for administrators.

Also... It's clear that you think they should be deleted, but why?

^ 'Tis what I was thinking too... A) Why make a thread here if you're not going to explain yourself and B) Why hasn't the OP checked back on this thread yet? I'm too lazy to check if he hasn't been on since he initially made his post here, but if he has, this should be one of his "priorities" when it comes to checking out threads on this site...

There's been loads of threads about this before. It will never happen. There's no good reason to do so.

Forums can handle hundreds of thousands of members with no effect at all.

You don't know much about forums do you?

As Andy said, forums can handle hundreds of thousands, if not millions of users.

When this site goes down its because of other reasons, the number of accounts/users on here won't affect the site in any way, shape, or form in regards to causing the site to crash/slowing the site down.

Pffft, wtf.

Why should they be deleted? There's no point.
Some people actually have a life and don't have the time to regularly post on a certain site. They may also have a lot of other major important stuff happening in their lives and could be gone for months or even a few years.

There is no harm in leaving the accounts as they are.

Old accounts are deleted occasionally. A couple thousand unactivated accounts have been deleted earlier this year and have been in the past. Space isn't really an issue anymore so I doubt it will be done anytime soon. But one of the benefits have been more user name availability.

Deleting old, unactivated accounts certainly makes sense though...

Deleting a member that hasn't been active in two years but was active when they were around and could always return at any time doesn't make sense though.

I don't think you really get forums that much. GovTeen's forum has been around for years now, since 2002. They have over hundreds of thousands of users, some of which haven't even posted! It's the same thing here. We have thousands of members, some of which join and post, but others don't. If we ever crash, it won't be because of too many members. Just because their inactive, doesn't mean that we have a right to delete that person's account.

It's very rare that an account is ever deleted here. It makes massive holes in posts, threads and everything, that it will just cause confusion about the whole thing. There have been people that joined in 2004 but have only made 5 posts and didn't make any more posts after that. What if they want to come back and find out that their account was deleted due to inactivity? That will cause them to make a new account and this will give the administration major problems.

People have real lives you know. They don't need to be on here very single minute, of every single hour, of every single day, of every single month, of every single year. They need to be able to have some breathing room for their own life outside of VT. I was away from here for a few weeks, and I held out just fine. Some people might leave for a month or two, perhaps a year, but they might come back for a short visit, like Dante or Alex, althought Alex isn't leaving for months at a time.

VT isn't something that you need to devote a life too. I did that and it caused me major problems because I was on here almost every hour on the hour. I was glued. So I left to give myself a break. I did a lot of cool things, and forgot about VT, but I came back. It doesn't matter if the user is inactive. The account should stay if they ever do come back.

That's the good thing about VT, there will always be people on here, every day, every hour, every month, every year.

Yes of course I agree with that point. I should have specified that.

To add to the whole inactivity thing what if someone on here like say they are 18-19 or whatever and they go to war or something like that? Who knows how long they will be gone. And If they want to come back I'm sure they will still want their accounts.
Also Forums like everyone else said can handle a shit-load of accounts most of the time and this one I'm sure can. I run 2 forums for myself so I know a place like this can handle it....The accounts should not be deleted for time absence.
