View Full Version : Short-sleeved prom dress?!

So I got my prom dress today, and it's really pretty but I still don't know what I'm going to do about my scars!! The dress has short sleeves, since you don't really get prom dresses with sleeves, so I'm going to have to find a way of covering them up, but I can't think of anything. Any suggestions?

Maybe you could find some long gloves that match?
I love lacy ones but there are loads out there and in different styles.

Sapphire has the right idea, you need to find something thats going to cover your arms, like gloves, or one of those wrap scraf thingys that girls wear. as you can see ima guy and dont know much, but trying my best to hekp ya out

Along with the advice above, I'm going to give 2 other options aswell.
1) Go to a store near you and get some scar cream. There are brilliant creams out there which get rid of/fade scars.
2) If you use foundation, make sure it matches you're skin colour. Then apply it to you're arms on the night to fade the scars a little.
However, I'm sure you'll look so beautiful that noone will even notice :) Good luck!

Thanks, I will try that, I have tried using foundation before but I'm very pale so it is very hard to find any that matches my skin, and the one I use on my face is too dark to use on my arms. I will also try looking for gloves or a shawl. I hadn't thought of that!

What about the cute shoulder cardigan things that some girls wear (ima boy too :P) it is like a jacket / cardigan but it goes like 1/3 of the way down the back and chest. That'd look pretty cute :)

I know its already been mentioned but foundation does work really well.
I've got a proper bad scar on my arm at the moment but i covered it with max factor foundation and then put some face powder/blusher over it to blend it in with my skin colour. It worked really well, you could hardly tell anything was there and no one noticed.
To be honest, people probably wont rly notice unless ur proper wafftin ur arms around and making it obvious cos i go clubbing a lot and dont even cover them hardly and no ones ever noticed.

I doubt that no one would notice, because they're on the front and back of my forearms and mostly new and quite dark and last time someone accidentally saw them they were really shocked and I had to make up some story about how it happened. So for my entire year at school to see them wouldn't really be ideal because people are bound to make comments. Thanks for the tips about the makeup, that's something else I might try, but with a different foundation to last time because that one didn't work.

well from now until your prom use bio-oil, and if it doesnt work you could maybe where a cardy or something that goes with the dress which would look nice. like one thats short across the waste and goes down ur arms. or wear one of those long gloves?

I've come to a conclusion! I'm going to try and go the two weeks until the prom without cutting, so hopefully the scars will heal a little and be less obvious and easier to cover up with makeup! It's going to be hard, but I don't want to let my cuts ruin things for me when I have such a nice dress, so hopefully that thought will help me through. I know I have a stressful time ahead of me because of things going on that are the reason I haven't wanted to stop before, but I really want to try and do this because if I can pull it off it means I may even be ready to stop completely.
Edit: I've been thinking about this some more, and the more I think about it, the more daunting those two weeks seem, and so I have just ordered some really pretty gothic lolita arm warmers that will go nicely with my dress in case I don't manage it.

Gloves would be the best. Go for mid-forearm length gloves but if your scars go higher try elbow length. There are all sort of different styles. That's what I'm also gonna do for my prom :S Scars suck.

Yeah my scars go up to my elbow. They only start just above my wrist. I found some gloves though. I guess the whole giving up to let them heal isn't going to work.

Oh sorry, i didnt realise. I think i said that cos i was thinking back to my own cuts on my arm cos mine are only mainly on the inside of my arms so they are a bit easier to hide, i spose i didnt really consider that people do it else where. Bit dim of me rly lol. Maybe fake tan would work. Hope you manage to sort something anyway :)

^^ Definitely the best ideas!
Gloves can look awesome if you get the right ones with the right dress. Especially those cool stripey fingerless ones that Gerard Way wears a lot. :D but you can get girl ones too, lol.
And in the meantime, just use creams and bio oil to try and reduce the scars appearance.

Scars are hard to hide, So i don't bother. Everyone in my life knows I used to cut, and they know the story behind it.
But use Vitamin E (it can be bought at BigLots or a drug store for like. $2.00)
It's a pill, stab it with a needle or a toothpick and put the gooey stuff on your scars. It helps them fade and makes your skin soft. apply it every night before bed, and wash it off in the morning (i recommend before bed because it makes your skin oily..very oily. But once you wash, it's all gone.)
Or, use liquid concealer.
My scars are VERY noticable. But i don't care.
You shouldn't be self consious of them. They're YOU. People won't love you any less, I promise.

thank you so much :D
Granted, they do get annoying. (i started cutting my stomach when my parents found out about my wrists). But they're starting to fade (thanks to the Vitamin E, that i talked about before)

Arm warmers, or if it's something you can pull it off with, try one of those skin-tight fishnet tops. They come in things that only go right below the boobs and/or the entire shirt, and many variations. You can get different textures and uhm... sized patterns and that will take away from the scars. You'll barely be able to see them through the fishnet.
