can you talk to your dad about this? Can you tell him your frustrated and that you need some help learning things...does he know how to play guitar...or does a friend maybe know how to play guitar so that you could learn off of them...or maybe your dad could pay for a couple lessons...maybe just the first few or something...maybe when your frustrated you can take a break for awhile and do something else...something that will take your mind off things for a bit. Maybe draw or write...or listen to music...or something like that. maybe write out how you are feeling...try and work out why exactly you are so frustrated...just a few ideas...hope I helped :) Please don't cut though

Hey, I taught myself bass and guitar. I've been playing bass for 4 years now and play in bands, have done quite a few gigs and recorded an album, it's really been one of the best things I ever decided to do, and last year I picked up guitar as well, getting to a reasonable standard in about 6 months. Without any lessons!
If there really is no way you're going to get lessons, I would suggest getting a beginner's book to learn playing techniques and chords from and just sitting and teaching yourself some songs which are easy to play, working up to playing more difficult songs. That is how I learnt, it takes a lot of patience sometimes, especially cos if you practice for hours every day your fingers start blistering and you have to take a day's break before you can play again which is frustrating! For me, learning slap bass was agony, because I could only play 10 minutes tops a day, and I am not exaggerating when I say I can't live without my bass. My friends made me sit on my hands cos I kept trying to play and making my fingers worse. But learning guitar on top of it helped toughen up my fingers a bit because guitars have thinner strings which cut into you like cheesewires. And sometimes you're trying to learn a song that seems impossible and no matter how many times you try to play it right you can't do it, but with practice it always comes eventually.
Good luck, don't give up, it's so worth it!! xx

I encourage you to keep trying to learn to play the guitar because it may just become an outlet for you later. :) Just like miss Punk said start off easy and then work your way up to the harder songs. Learn the basic chords and notes first, once you learn basic chords and notes, you can just play whatever really. I make up my own songs on the piano just from knowing basic chords...
