I agree with above here, you can't just rule out someone elses likings of this person and say your likings are better, you're not in their shoes. But I understand, you want it to be that way, which is totally normal and fine.

I also believe that you are listening to culture to much and not your heart. Anyone can like anyone, and there are no rules (I've even dated my best friends sister). If you like her, don't worry about what friends think or what they say you should do (even though this is completely contradicting me giving you advice right now). Follow your heart, and be yourself.

Now, if you want to sit down and talk to this other boy, that's up to you. Keep the conversation casual though. You do risk this becoming very awkward though, so PRECEDE WITH CAUTION. You can never be to cautious.
