I have gotten the hiccups every single day. Without fail.

And they never seem to go away. I try everything. Holding my breath, breathing into a paper bag, eating peanut butter, drinking water, drinking water upside down, eating a spoonful of sugar (Yeah...someone told me to) people trying to scare me, and any ones that I haven't mentioned. I've tried them all.

So, I'm not really looking for foolproof ways to get rid of them, they do go away after a while. My question is, why do I get them so much? Is there something wrong with my diaphragm?

BOO! (did that work? no, still?)

Well, a windy explanation for the audience: Hiccups are caused by an involuntary spasm of the diaphragm, a muscle sheet btw'n the stomach and lungs.

After our convo of the other night, I pulled a book or two (for you, my dear!), and found that, absent any kind of other *issue*, the best thing to stop them is to increase CO2 concentration in the blood. So, holding your breath, drinking H2O, bretahing into a paper bag, etc., most often relieves them. Try it
