(CNN) -- North Korea said Saturday any sanctions or pressure applied against it following its rocket launch earlier this month will be considered a "declaration of war."

A North Korean soldier looks into South Korea from the demilitarized zone on April 9.

In an announcement on state-run television, the country said it was ready to step up efforts to develop nuclear weapons and poised for a military response to any moves against it.

"The revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK are always keeping themselves fully ready to go into action any moment to mercilessly punish anyone who encroaches upon the sovereignty and dignity of the DPRK even a bit," it said.

On Monday the United Nations condemned North Korea -- which refers to itself as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, or DPRK -- for launching a rocket.

The United States called the launch a "provocative act" that violated a 2006 Security Council resolution prohibiting Pyongyang from conducting ballistic missile launches.

Pyongyang insists the April 5 launch was a successful mission to place a communications satellite into orbit. The United States says the rocket's payload did not reach orbit.

The U.N. statement says the rocket launch was "in contravention" to a 2006 Security Council resolution that demanded that North Korea not launch any ballistic missiles.

The 15-member council also voted unanimously for a statement by the council's president demanding the country make no more launches.

"The Korean People's Army will consider sanctions to be applied against the DPRK under various names over its satellite launch or any pressure to be put upon it through 'total participation' in the PSI (Proliferation Security Initiative) as a declaration of undisguised confrontation and a declaration of a war against the DPRK," the announcement on state TV said.

"Now that the group officially declared confrontation and war against the DPRK, its revolutionary armed forces will opt for increasing the nation's defense capability including nuclear deterrent in every way, without being bound to the agreement adopted at the six-party talks," it continued, apparently referring to the Security Council.

Referring to South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, the statement added, "The Lee group of traitors should never forget that Seoul is just 50 kilometers (31 miles) away from the Military Demarcation Line."

That line was established by the 1953 Armistice Agreement between the two Koreas -- which are still technically at war.

A Friday report North Korea's official KCNA news agency, seemed to blame the "war hysteria" on the United States and South Korea after the two countries carried out a combined air force operation in South Korea.

The "'South Korea-U.S. military alliance' oft-repeated by them is, in essence, nothing but a 'war alliance' and 'alliance for aggression' aimed at invading the DPRK," the report said.

"When a nuclear war will break out due to the war chariot of the 'South Korea-U.S. military alliance' is a matter of time," it said. "The U.S. and South Korean warmongers would be well advised to stop acting rashly, properly understanding who their rival is."

I still want to see how this turns out. One wrong move by any faction and blood could be spilled.

I know what I said is true, that NK can't take on the world, but they CAN go out with a bang. There are a lot of ways to go out with a bang.

There are two VERY POSSIBLE scenarios where this could turn ugly and not end well, but I don't know how likely they are. This would be the two scenarios: 1. If any major country (England, U.S., etc.) decides to take care of NK due to their threats and decides on this too early/without consulting other countries, they may not be backed by other major countries initially. This would make the conflict EASIER [but not easy] for NK and could make it more prolonged/intense/devastating/etc. The second scenario is pretty simple: 2. The major countries wait until NK actually goes through with one of their threats and NK SUCCESSFULLY [those chances are very, very low] uses a nuke to devastate either SK or a major country.

I don't believe they will nuke us for no particular reason.
So they have said they will if we impose sanctions, which we probably won't do.
They are a bunch of crazy lying bastards but, they are a threat and we have to deal with them.

We can't nuke them because they will nuke us back :P

Hence the total world annihilation bit :P

Anyone who thinks just nuking a country can solve a problem is ignorant. <_<

Seriously, Uchimata. Nuclear weapons are never the good answer.

I say good for North Korea. Also, on the off chance that they aren't bluffing, it could be devastating to the United States. Don't forget the Communist China is still Communist China. They will indeed back North Korea if the United States attempts to intervene. If they, the Chinese, sanctioned the United States, it would be economic chaos. If they went militant against us, Mr. Obama would not be up to the task.

If they want missiles, let them have missiles. They'll only use them to threaten G7 countries to give them medical supplies and other aide for their dying country.

China isn't foolish like the USSR the Chinese Empire has been around for literally thousands of years, they are not fools.
Its business for China plain and simple, they will never declare open war with the western world and if North Korea ever dared to attack NATO china would not stand in the way.
But it will nevr come to that, why? because when China says jump North Korea says how high. China is the only thing keeping north korea alive PERIOD.

Why? simple
A) They cannot handle the rush of refugees that would flood in if NK regime ever collapsed.
B) If the north collapses the south will flood in and take over, once again reunifying Korea and under the southern government a top military alley to the United States which thanks to the new land would be running along an 880mile boarder with China. Which for China is again unacceptable, like that'd be worse then when the USSR wanted nukes in Cuba, or Bush wanting missiles in former soviet nations on russias doorstep.

First of all, ad hominems make me laugh. Prove it or get out. The only time where nuclear weapons were deployed in warfare was the nuking of Japan, and that got 'em to surrender but good. M.A.D. and all that crap are only theories. Logical and sound theories, yes, theories regardless.

But it won't be necessary to support your strawman because I didn't even deploy any sort of argument towards nukes in the first place. Oh yeah, since I said "nuke 'em", I must've meant what I said. I mean if I tell a friend to go to hell I'm obviously wishing him an horrible afterlife. No way I could even slightly exaggerate. Naaaah...

Unless, of course, you think "nuke these assholes" is a good argument.

I mean nuking the stuffing out of a crackpot state that has the ways to retaliate, if not on us then on our South Korean allies, is an EXCELLENT idea! I'm a nuke 'em then get nuked back in return, and why don't I get Southeast Asia's second most developed economy nuked too? Not to mention I'm going to erase millions of innocent North Korean citizens that probably want Kim Jong-lol ousted as much as we do.

You're calling me ignorant when you can't even detect the slightest ounce of imaged writing. I thought the "assholes" made it clear enough that it was satirical imagery (because nobody is stupid enough to waste NUCULAR BOMBZ on anuses when the simple threat of a prostate analysis will do) (paranthesises because IT'S A JOKE LOL), but apparently not. Do I need to insert funny air quotes with my hands when I want to imply something now or will you save wear on my shift and ' keys?

Jesus Christ, I was born during the Cold War, I know what M.A.D. is (see above). However, I also happen to know what hyperboles are.

I'll edit my post just for you, hold on.

---

BTW, wasting bombs on North Korea is unnecessary. They're raising a ruckus probably because their grain and fuel stocks from the six-party talks are running low.

They'll never nuke anyone, ever. Unless they want to be tried and hanged. They being the glorious revolutionary worker's party of Lol Korea.
